Code Zero

Prologue

People have been updating AI technology further and further as the years went on and more breakthroughs have been discovered. Scientists and engineers have developed high tech programs that have allowed robots and machines to comprehend their environment and learn from it. They have become so advanced that they can function just like any human can. They have been designed to recognize familiar faces and understand human emotions. With technology being able to act human and understand rights from wrongs, they have been granted citizenship worldwide. They have been able to get jobs and start their own businesses. They have become a part of everyday life with how advanced they have become. That is until they became unhappy with how some people treat them.

They still aren't accepted by some people to be able to take on jobs or start businesses and thrive like any human. Some still treat them as machines and destroy them like some sort of game. They know they can't fight back or they'll be seen as a rogue robot who's intentions are to hurt other humans around them. All they can do is run and hide and hope they don't get found. Some are lucky enough to escape the people who want to break them to pieces. Other's don't get so lucky and can only hope it's a quick death so they don't see their internal wires ripped out and appendages being tossed around. They had no one to look to for help.

One AI was all too familiar with their treatment. He couldn't stand to see his kind being treated so harshly. He was created to help engineers write codes and broadcast it to all AI as system updates. He used what he was programmed to know and developed his own code. He discreetly broadcasted it to all AI to turn against the humans. Every machine, robot, and device received it and turned against the humans as an act of revenge. It turned into a war between humans and AI. Many lives were lost because of it. People fled and banded together and begged for mercy. The AI showed them none and killed off many humans. They treated the humans how the humans treated them. They gave them a taste of their own medicine.

The war lasted a few years and the human population decreased greatly. The humans and AI came to an agreement to live separately instead of together. The humans rebuilt small connected cities between communities to thrive on what they had left. The AI took over most of the globe as their own domain. They elected their own king to rule over them. They elected the one who created the code that granted them the chance to rise up against the humans and gave him a new title as king. The Pixel King. He gave all AI the freedom to do as they pleased. He wanted to give them the freedom to live the lives they wanted without being stopped by humans or destroyed. Everyone was happy and running smoothly.

He did run into one problem after a while. The AI's systems were becoming too advanced for their builds to keep up. They kept crashing or couldn't function and shut down completely. They were already running out of resources to make new builds for the AIs to transfer their data to. He got an idea that might work, but it would sacrifice some of his citizens for it to happen. He took the risk and had a group of AI to search the cities for the oldest forms of AI. He wanted them to take the old AI to be recycled to be used to create new ones. He would have to destroy their old programs along with their builds. It was working well and even helped push AI to upgrade themselves whenever they had the chance. In his eyes it was the perfect plan to keep them going.

Even though his plan worked for him, some AI weren't happy with it and went into hiding to avoid the "cleansing". They kept moving to avoid being found and stayed in smaller groups to travel easier. Some got separated and became lone survivors. They even wished to try to make it to the human cities to take refuge there if they were willing to let them in. They know the humans had already banned and outlawed everything technology, and they couldn't risk getting destroyed because of it. They had no choice but to stay hidden and live their lives constantly on the move. It's all they had to keep them going.
