We Are Tied

Summer vacation pt.2

Kane's bright blue bathing suit was blinding my eyes. She slowly reached each foot into the water, step by step. I did the same, hoping not to fall. My mom is just watching us from a distance like she used to always do.

(Mom's P.O.V)
It has been so long since I have seen my daughter so happy. I don't like being hard on her but in most cases it is the only way. I made it to California from Mexico to give her and her brothers a better life. I don't want my effort to go to waste. Also, I have noticed the way her and her friend look at each other. I pretend not to notice so that they won't feel awkward. I feel like it is my fault that she is so scared of liking her. I'm okay with whatever interest she may have as long as she doesn't suffer. I love my chula too much.

Gabby yelled," here Kane, climb on my shoulders."

Kane protested," no way! You could drown."

Gabby," how? I'm strong and you're light so there shouldn't be a problem. Come on."

Kane climbs on Gabby's shoulders and immediately grabs her neck.

Kane let out a yelp,"Gabby! Don't move!"
Gabby yells back with concern," what?! Are you scared?! I can put you down!"

Kane looks down at Gabby with her eyes wide open. "I'm okay but be careful...!" she said.

Gabby," I don't trust that so I'm just going to put you down!" Kane replied with a shaky okay.

Gabby crouches and puts Kane back in the water, but kept her hands on her waist. Kane gulps and sees Gabby's hands. Her face goes red when she realizes the position they are in. Gabby has yet to notice the reason for Kane's flustered face.
Gabby looks down with confusion; she then sees that her hands are still wrapping around Kane's warm, wet body.

Gabby exclaims," oh! Sorry. How about we go play with the basketball."

Kane answers," um, okay."

They swim over and pass the basketball around for a bit. Gabby was going to make a shot when she heard a grumble coming from Kane's direction.

Gabby asked," oh, are you hungry? We should go eat after this shot."

Kane smiled," okay! Let's go, take the shot!"

Gabby hurries and takes the shot, she said 'obviously' in her head because she made it in the basket. She smiled and said," alright, let's go!"

We both started walking toward the metal ladder of the pool. I stepped first and made it up. I turned around to help Kane. When I did, I saw something; a view that gave me a strong feeling. Kane has both hands extended and wrapping around the ladder. Her dripping thighs going up and moving one by one. Her hair dropping droplets of water onto the tile beneath her. She pulled herself back up to the ground above water. She began to stride toward me and snapped me out of my slow motion sinimatic.

Kane laughed," what are you staring at Gabby? Let's go."

She takes my hand and we walk towards my mom. To finish the day: we eat, dress out, and leave the public swimming pool.
