I shook out my hands, letting out all of the tension and nervousness that had been bubbling up inside me since I had woken up that morning. I felt myself relaxing, my muscles loosening and my breath slowing. I was determined to achieve my best, and that meant winning this competition. Not just for me, but for the ones who inspired me to dance. All of those people that meant something to me, that were each a piece of my heart. My friends who were not just friends, but my family.
And the one man standing close beside me, his shoulder brushing against mine.
"You ready?" He asked, rubbing his thumb against the back of my hand, sending warmth through my body.
"I was born ready." I joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Let's go then Isla. We can do this. Together."
"Together." I repeated, grabbing his hand and intertwining out fingers together.
We walked towards the stage, our hearts beating as one.
It was time.
