If anything worse could have happened between them, this was it. It wasn't a simple accident, a fleeting mistake, or a mere lapse in judgment. It was real.
Neither of them could contain the tumult of thoughts in their minds.
Their hearts pounded erratically, hands clammy with tension. The scents that had once fueled hatred and fear between them now left them on edge, almost intoxicated, lingering close enough to tease with every breath.
No one knew what had transpired that early morning.
In the privacy of Jeno's room, alone and charged with intensity, their touches lingered on each other's skin, unwilling to part.
Jeno had finally opened the double sliding windows, letting in fresh air to dissipate the lingering scents. He turned the ventilator on high and filled the purifiers with a neutral fragrance.
Meanwhile, Harin had changed her clothes, catching herself in the act of trying to erase every trace of his scent. She packed the clothing into a paper bag and stowed it deep in her duffel, hoping to shake off the reminder.
Nobody focused on the strange glances or subtle fidgets between the two as they returned to their usual roles around the workplace. Nobody cared about the memories they avoided, nor the tension that lingered between them.
But they knew. They lived in a silent, private world of shared secrets and unresolved feelings.
One Month Later...
A month had passed since the incident, and two since Harin had joined Maze as a talent. She had gained recognition, both from her peers and the public, with fans applauding the choreography she'd crafted for the idol group. Her name proudly rolled in the credits.
New opportunities kept Harin busy, and as her demands increased, she and Jeno rarely crossed paths. It wasn't as though they were eager to meet again, but they did notice the absence of those brief interactions. The silence felt... peaceful.
No banter. No sour moods. No painful trips down memory lane.
Harin was enjoying a quiet morning with her coffee and sandwich at Maze's restaurant, sitting in her usual corner, watching people come and go without much else to do.
"Miss Kwon?"
Her ears perked up, and she looked over at the voice, greeted by a warm, familiar face and an endearing smile she could never forget.
"Jae!" she exclaimed, her surprise genuine.
Jaehyun chuckled, his smile widening. "You're a big name now; it's hard to get close to you. May I sit?"
"Of course," she replied, beaming. "Wait, what are you doing here?"
"Oh, I work here," he said casually. "Mainly in the States, though. I just came back about a month ago."
"A month? And I didn't even know!" she exclaimed.
"You're busy," he replied with a laugh, "and maybe I am too. I've been dealing with things related to the BJs."
"BJs?" Her brow furrowed in confusion.
He smiled. "I don't do livestreams, but I'm their general manager."
