The fading city lights cut through the blinds and spilled across the desk where a letter sat. The neon effect causing a blue stripe to illuminate the name on the words on the paper. The girl who wrote them grabbed an envelope from a drawer and folded the letter, creating sharp creases. Placing the letter within, she licked the seal and closed the last letter. A heavy burden felt as if it had been lifted off of her chest as she wrote the address onto the paper. Grabbing a plain stamp, she sealed it securely onto the front and gave the envelope a final glance over. A single tear slipped from her eye, but she quickly brushed it away. Laying the envelope back on the desk, she wandered over to the window. Peeling back the curtain, she looked out over the busy city night, the illuminated signs and billboards, beckoning buyers close. She imagined what life would have been like if she were someone else, then she looked up at the sky and past the smog, into the stars, because that was where she really belonged.
Looking around the semi empty room, she took in the loneliness and despair. It made her sad to see her life flashing before her eyes, slipping through an hour glass, and all she can do is watch as the sand sinks lower and lower. Letting out a long sigh, she looked up at the water-stained ceiling for hope. There was none. She was alone still. He hadn't found her; the plan had failed.
