I've always known I was different, but I never imagined that I would be this different. Or how my entire life could change for knowing one small secret.
I led a normal life, besides the fact that I have no parents and I live in an orphanage.
I also have no friends. No one likes me because they think I bring bad luck. Every time I'm around weird things tend to happen. Maybe that's why my parents didn't want me.
One of the ladies at the oraphanage told me that I have an older brother. His name is Percy Jackson and he lives on the other side of the country. One day I will look for him and I will find him. He is the key to my past and the door to my future. I am sure of it.
I am 12 years old and live in California. My name is Pearl and this is my story.

I fall to the ground and grab my cheek, trying to take away the throbbing pain. "Stop whinning and get up!" Madame Cara hollers. I stand up slowly and look into her cruel eyes, the eyes that have looked at me since the day my parents abandoned me.
Was she born with some sort of evil inside of her? Or had life brought her many tradegies that forced her to be this way? Whatever it was, it didn't justify her for treating us this way.
She forced us to do her chores and constantly yelled at us for no good reason. She gave us no freedom and enjoyed slapping and kicking us.
"Daydreaming again?! What is wrong with you?! Go fold my clothes and then go straight to the basement! You will have no supper tonight!" Madame Cara's scratchy voice interrupted my thoughts.
I slumped my shoulders and dragged myself upstairs to her room.
Matthew, the oldest orphan in this orphanage, was there making Madame Cara's bed. He was 16 years old, had curly brown hair, hazel eyes, and cute dimples. He was a nice guy, but a little creepy. He always stared at me like if he was examining my inner soul.
"Hey" he said, without looking up from what he was doing.
"what's up?" I reply.
"Not much, just thinking of a way to get out of this horrible place" he said casually.
I just stared at him. Maybe this could be my chance to escape this dreadful place. "Oh my God...really?! take me with you!" I exclaimed, excited for the oppurtinities I would have if I was free.
He looked up and walked toward me without taking his eyes off of me. He stopped about a foot away from me and with a mischevious look in his eyes said "Why should I?"
I was about to answer him, when Madame Cara bursted into the room. She stared at me, but said nothing. Her mouth was bubbling and she looked like a vicious dog. "M-Madame Car-ra are you okay?" I stuttered.
She ignored my question and I heard a deep rumble inside her chest. Her bubbling started getting worse and she tilted her head, hungrily.
Matthew walked closer to me, slowly, and whispered "run"
"I won't leave you" I protested.
He looked at me and then slowly took out two pens out of his pocket. He kept one and gave me the other one. Was he crazy? How were two pens supposed to help us?
He pushed me back and clicked he clicked his pen. Madame Cara hissed. She fell to the floor and stood on her hands and feet. Then she started growing and stretching. Her hands and feet turned into paws. Her face turned into a lion's and out of her back something was growing. A goat's head! Her butt stretched and turned into a tail.I looked closely and realized that her tail was a snake!
I took a step back and held my head. I felt dizzy. I couldn't process what was going on it was too much! My vision was blurry, but as I looked into Matthew's hands, I saw a sword. Then, I fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU GUYS THINK OF THIS STORY SO FAR. GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS ON HOW I COULD MAKE IT BETTER.
