There's this thing about the morning. A few moments before everyone wakes from a deep sleep. Minutes before the sun has even properly risen to shine a light upon the world.

There's something beautiful, yet tragic, about the sight.

Yuki feels a certain connection to the damp and chilly morning-air, there's something in his heart that tells him that he's like the unlit lights in the silent houses within the town that he can see from here. He's like the world, only than less important.

He walks along the paths that have been created by nature, or at least, the humans that have walked through these forest-like parts of Japan enough times to create these paths. They're unlike the unlike the paved streets in town, and when the morning starts, these parts of town won't be filled with people trying to find their way to work or school. Nobody ever comes here, except for Yuki, Kyo and Tohru. Okay, sometimes some other family-members too, like when Shigure leaves the house from time to time or when Hatsuharu and Momiji pay them a visit. But the paths remain mostly empty, just like the world, completely alone before everyone wakes up.

Yuki pays a visit to the world, sometimes, before everyone else wakes up. It's not because he's sad that the world is lonely, he doesn't belief the planet they live on can actually feel loneliness like that. It's rather because Yuki himself feels so alone.

Sleep doesn't come easy to him. If he sleeps, he's a deep sleeper, and not easy to wake up. But, often times, his nightmares wake him up before everyone else does. Just like they did today.

On mornings like these, he just gets out of bed. Away from the dark room where shadows taunt him.

Sometimes, he takes the time to wrap a scarf or a blanket around his shoulders, but often times he doesn't even wait to do that. The urge to get outside is so big that he doesn't want to waste time getting ready for something so sacred; seeing the world before everyone else wakes up is a rare thing that only lasts a couple of minutes as most, so there's no time to waste.

In complete silence, Yuki makes his way up to the best spot he can find. Each day this is a different one, because the world surrounding him never looks perfect from the same spot twice in a row. Sometimes his mood tells him that he needs some rest, no sight of the town in the distance, but rather the trees, the grass, the untouched nature lit by the moon that's accompanied by the stars. And sometimes, when he feels really alone, the streetlights that light up the streets make him feel less lonely. Like there are many things like him down there; awake and cold and alone.

It makes him a little sad that, at night, this is all he has. And that reminds him of his youth; all he had were objects, because no one else would even look at him. He was just a filthy rat that they had to get rid of one way or another.

Sure, things are different now. He has lots of people surrounding him all day long; Tohru's there to make him feel more worthy, taking care of him in her own special way, and there's Shigure giving him a place to live where he's not all on his own. Even Kyo, who often irritates Yuki, makes sure that Yuki doesn't feel lonely and sad all the time, in his own special way. But this early in the morning, there's no one awake to comfort him, there's no one here to make him feel less lonely.

So, he needs the sky, the trees, the wakeful world to keep him company when no one else can.

Slow and steady, he takes a breath while staring at the sky. Inhaling the cold air before releasing a little cloud into the dark sky. And that's all he needs to do, to feel a little better.

Once the freezing air has made his way to his lungs, stinging him from inside like little crystals are growing in his lungs, he returns back home. Because as beautiful as the world is in the silent moments like this, he doesn't want the lifelessness to take him over.

And morning will come soon. Very soon. He can already see the shine of the sun in the distance.

By the time he reaches home, the sun already casts bigger shadows over everything. Even though most people like sunrise more, Yuki feels like it's a shame to see the darkness that's accompanied by the light, whereas there are almost no shadows to be seen when there's only night sky.

Maybe that makes no sense, but he feels that way.

He just feels a little indifferent about the universe when the sun comes up, because he's got better things to look forward to. He's got nicer things awaiting him when he gets him now.

He walks through the door, already feeling that everything's different from when he left a couple of minutes ago. Everyone was still sleeping then, but he can hear chatting from the livingroom now.

In one swift move, Yuki takes off his shoes and walks through the dimly lit hallway. Towards the bright livingroom that's now brimmed with life.

He watches, from a distance, at how Tohru strolls around in her nightgown, possibly looking for something she forgot downstairs last night, and at Kyo sitting at the table still half asleep.

It's a calming scene. Almost more calming as the world before everyone wakes up.

Tohru's eyes go big when turns around to Yuki, her hair is tangled up in one big mess of a bed-head and her voice still sounds a little croaky when she chirps a "good morning, Sohma!". It's soon followed by Kyo's grunting and sighing, because while he was probably hoping on breakfast with just Tohru, Yuki has returned from his early morning walk.

Within just that mere second, he feels less lonely. Better than he did when he was outside in the sleeping world, and much, much better than he did when he was still lying in his dark bedroom.

Yuki smiles and wants to thank them. Instead he says, "Good morning." because that feels like a better response in this case. But they deserve a "thanks" for real. A true "thank you" for making his world better, and sometimes a little worse in Kyo's case.

Fore, the world looks a little brighter and a little less lonely after they wake up.

The End.

Hey There!

I HAVE A WRITERSBLOCK... so, this probably was an underwhelming fic... sorry.
I like it, though. I liked writing the calm vibes of an early-morning walk. I thought it suited Yuki.

Anyway, I hope you liked it ^^
