Lying in the secret passages of Hogwarts, Thestralis and its Chosen were ready to lead the wizard's world. At the beginning of Hogwarts' history, four houses were created by the four greatest wizards and witches since the apparition of magic. Hufflepuff by the loyal Helga Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw by the clever Rowena Ravenclaw, Gryffindor by the courageous Godrick Gryffindor and Slytherin by the cunning Salazar Slytherin. But what most people don't know is the existence of the fifth house, Thestralis. First secretly imagined by Salazar to satisfy his devouring ambition as a special pureblood house, it was transformed by the Ministry of Magic into a secret society after the other founders found out the truth. As a neutral and peculiar house, it welcomes the school's elite called the Chosen. They are pushed to their maximum capacity and they learn to use them at their best.

On the last night of their fifth year, six students are hypnotised and led to the Chamber of Secrets to be filled in on Thestralis' purposes. To be accepted they need to pass a test, the Thestralis' trial. They have all the summer at Hogwarts to create something new, artefact, spell or potion. To assist them in their research, the ancient Chosen are appointed Mentors for the new one. To be certain that the existence of the house remains a rumour in the school, the six students are bound by an Unbreakable Vow. If they succeed in their task, they fully obtain their place among the elite, if not they are obliviate. 

In order for them to recognise each other, their costumes are modified to change colour and coat of arms when they see each other. Only the chosen ones can see the change so that the Vacants remain in the dark.

The Thestral is the emblem of the house, purple its colour. Creatures of Death, the thestrals represent its ineluctability. The fact that they are invisible for the Death's strangers tally with the aim of secrecy of the society. The Thestralis' common room is the Chamber of Secret which was specially created for the fifth house and its students. Placed under the castle, the Chosen need the password Occultus Aranea to enter. This password reminds the students what it means to keep secrets and commitments. To access the Chamber and not arouse suspicion among the Vacants, the secret entrances of each known houses have an access to the common room of Thestralis. Their appointment as Prefects allowed them to use the private common room as entrance and to excuse the time the six are spending together.
