"Today has been so crazy." I mumbled, staring into the distance.
"You don't say." Axel replied.
"Why us?" I forced a laugh.
"I don't know," Aiden said. "I guess we're just unlucky."
"There are like 7.9 billion people on the face of the Earth, yet us four get chosen by fate to go through Hell and back." I realised how loud my voice was when I saw Aiden and Axel glaring at me intently from across the table. "Sorry." I said, quieter this time.
"Look, I completely get you but we can't sit around complaining forever, we have to-" Axel nudged Aiden's arm, signalling for him to shut up.
"Hey, can I take your orders?" A voice said. I looked up to see the waiter's (clearly fake) smiley face.
"Yeah, I'll have mint chocolate chip." Axel said.
"Strawberry for me, please."
"Sorry, do I know you from somewhere? I feel like we've met." I examined his face.
"No." he said quickly.
"I swear I've seen you before."
"What can I get you?"
"Just vanilla, thanks."
"What was that about?" Aiden accused as the waiter walked away.
"Nothing! I just thought I recognised him. Don't you guys think it's weird that he got so defensive?"
"Not really, he was probably just creeped out by a stranger asking him so many questions."
"I'm not really a stranger, he's probably seen my face somewhere before." Just then, a bunch of giggles came from a group of young, teenage girls behind us. I turned around, smiling at them. "Hey girls," I said. "Can we help?"
"Yeah, are you Aiden Turner's sister?" One wearing a full face of makeup said. I turned to Aiden quickly to see him subtly shaking his head. I smirked and turned back. "I am! Do you guys want a photo with him?" The girls shrieked with joy and I rolled my eyes as all they came over to us. Well, all but one. The girl had short, dark hair that was tied back with a claw clip and a few strands that escaped, she wore glasses and had her head in her phone. Her jumper was beige with a chequered black and white diamond design which she paired with ripped, pale blue mom jeans and white trainers. "Hey," I called. "Don't you want a photo too?"
"Oh, no thank you. I'm not into that."
"Photos, the modelling industry or my brother?" I laughed.
"All of them," she smiled back. "I think you're way cooler if it's of any importance to you."
"Thanks." I don't know what I was feeling but it was amazing. Knowing there were young girls who looked at me this way was truly incredible. That's when my eyes fell upon a rainbow pin on the bag beside her. "Do me a favour?" I said.
"Sure."
"Keep being brave." She looked confused for a moment, but then she must've realised what I meant. She flashed a small smile towards me and nodded a little before returning to her virtual world. I turned back to the boys. "How cute." Axel chuckled.
"Don't." Aiden sighed.
"What's the matter? Can't deal with the fame?"
"Yeah, do I have competition?"
"Guys, please just shut up." Luckily for him, we did as our waiter returned. I tried to catch sight of his name without looking suspicious. I looked up at him when I took my ice cream and quickly darted my gaze to his badge: Dean. I wracked my brain for something, anything. "OH MY GOD!" I yelled.
"Keep it down, Ave." Axel said.
"Sorry, I just remembered something." I checked to see if he was gone.
"What?"
"That's Scarlet's brother."
"Excuse me?" They said together, in perfect time.
"I met him once. Unintentionally, actually. Do you think he knows?"
"I hope not. Otherwise we're going to jail." Aiden murmured.
"Aiden! You can't say that here. Plus, that's not what I was talking about. Of course he doesn't know about that. I mean what if he knows about what Scarlet did to us? What if he was in on it?"
"You're overthinking." Axel reassured us.
"No, but what if I'm right? Then what do we do?"
"I don't know, but we don't need to think about that because nothing is going to happen; Dean knows nothing."
"But he might." I said, picking at my ice cream.
"But he doesn't, okay?"
"I'm just going to stick with Axel. Let's have a positive attitude, guys."
"It's really funny you say that, Aiden. Aren't you the one who did nothing but complain 24/7?" I squinted my eyes at him.
"Can we talk about something else?" Aiden shifted uncomfortably in his seat. I don't blame him. Ever since we all met, our lives have been pretty messed up.
