Avery burst through the front door much sooner than we expected her to.
"Back so soon?" Aiden said, just as surprised as me. We both shot to the living room.
"You guys are never going to believe this." Avery was extremely pale.
"Ave, are you feeling okay? You look like you're about to be sick." I slowly edged away from her. A few seconds later, Riley entered the room.
"Riley, show them."
"Show us what?" I could tell that Aiden was panicking, just from his voice. Riley slipped down the shoulder of her t-shirt, revealing a club-shaped birthmark. I felt my stomach drop. Immediately, I turned to look at Aiden beside me. There was visible shock plastered all over his face. "No." he said under his breath. Avery buried her face in her left palm as tears crept out from the corners of her eyes. Slowly, I reached to hold Aiden's hand. Riley slipped her t-shirt back up and turned to face us. "That's not possible." I whispered.
"That's what I said." Riley and Avery said together.
"I'm only 33; you can't. Please tell me this is some sort of sick joke." Aiden's voice started to break.
"I wish."
"I'm not going to let you go through that. Riley, you're my only daughter and I can't lose you. I can't lose you like I lost Amaya, like we lost Amaya."
"I think she's tough enough." I said quietly. However, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't process it.There was no way this was happening right now.
