Shuichi had given Kiibo a cat for his birthday, for when he wasn't there, since he was such a famous detective he got cases all over Asia, not just Japan anymore.
Kiibo has major separation anxiety, and the cat seemed to calm him down.
He called the cat 'sai'.
He loved that cat more than anything in the world, he was so close and attached to it.
But all things must come to an end.
The home owner found out they were keeping a cat without permission.
He got mad.
'He's really taking him- My cat- I-'
Kiibo thought, choking up at the thought of giving his cat up for adoption all because of the stupid landlord, who hadn't even specified not to keep pets in the apartment.
"It'll be okay-"
Shuichi put his hand on Kiibo's shoulder, Kokichi was driving them to the adoption center so that Shuichi could be with Kiibo.
"No!- I-It won't! Y-you don't understand! I need Sai!"
Kiibo sobbed, petting Sai who was sitting in his lap happily.
He was purring softly as Kiibo pet his head and neck.
Kiibo let out a choked sob at that, he was so clueless, so oblivious to the fact that they couldn't keep him anymore.
Sai would accompany Kiibo when Shuichi wasn't there and he'd accompany him when Shuichi was there.
He was always there.
In Kiibo's worst and best times.
When he was scared and alone.
No matter what.
But now? Now.. All that is going to be gone.
"G-guys- we're here.."
Kokichi murmured awkwardly, parking the car and looking behind him.
"N-no!- P-please no-"
Kiibo cried, holding the cat close, the cat cuddled up to Kiibo calmly, as he did when Kiibo was upset or stressed.
"Kiibo-"
Shuichi looked at him sympathetically, lightly nudging him to get out of the car.
"No- No- I regret this- L-lets just move houses!"
Kiibo proposed, obviously the proposal was preposterous and unrealistic, they had a nice, affordable apartment with much freedom and free space, so obviously they wouldn't move just for a cat.
"Kiibo- No- We talked about this. We can't move for a cat."
Shuichi protested, Kiibo's heart shattered even more.
"L-lets buy the house then!"
Kiibo offered, only to be protested against again.
"Please, please no. Please don't take him!"
Kiibo sobbed, Shuichi hugged him tightly.
"It'll be okay- Let's put him in there for now and we'll see what we can do after, kay?"
Shuichi proposed, smiling sadly at Kiibo.
"O-okay."
His voice cracked, he got out of the car and hugged the cat tightly, then picked him up.
The pair went in as Kokichi waited in the car patiently.
Shuichi pat Kiibo's and softly pet it.
"Shh.. It'll be okay, we can come visit every now and then, okay?"
Shuichi comforted, Kiibo nodded, and wiped his tear stained cheeks and eyes, taking a deep breath to calm himself down.
Shuichi had already walked inside, while Kiibo was standing there with Sai in his arms.
The cat was still purring, and Kiibo was still petting him.
Goodbyes are hard.
Kiibo took small, slow steps as to savor whatever little time they had left.
"I'm go-gonna miss you- I- I can't l-live without you- I- I don't know what i-i'll do-"
Kiibo sobbed, hugging the cat close before opening the door.

The cat was gone.
Just like that.
They didn't own Sai anymore.
No more Sai.
...
Shuichi and Kiibo walked back to the car empty-handed.
Floods of tears kept falling from Kiibo's eyes and Shuichi was hugging him closely, reassuring him that everything would be okay.
"Shhh.. No, no baby. it's okay.. I'm not even leaving any time soon, so you'll be with me. I promise."
Shuichi pet his head softly, reassuring him comfortingly.
"I-I- Y-you d-don't understand!- I-I need him-
R-regardless if you're h-here or not!"
Kiibo cried, Shuichi nodded and kissed his cheek.
"Shhhh.. Hush baby.. It's okay.."
Shuichi mumbles, hugging Kiibo tightly.

uh this was a true story except i dont have a boyfriend and i didnt go to give my cat away but i cried alot so even if this is cringe, ☹️ i still am gonna publish it cuz i miss my cat.
