"Tape 10.1: Testing and observing Specimen #096 in different environments."
The scientist turned on the tape recording before they spoke, then leaned back in their chair as they said so.
"Open chamber number three, Oscar,"
The scientist commanded their AI assistant.
"Yes sire,"
Oscar responded and opened chamber three, revealing a humanoid creature dripping black liquid everywhere on the floor and on the white chamber walls. The creature snarled unpleasantly when it turned its head towards the scientist's direction.
"Activate bright lights, Oscar."
"Yes sire."
The scientist put on their sunglasses. There was a beep sound and the chamber flashed with blinding lights. The creature however, shrieked in pain and its black slimy skin sizzled and dissolved from the bright lights. The scientist watched the creature cowering in a corner and covered its face with its claw-like hands. The scientist watched it scream, feeling pity for the creature. Moments later, half of the creature's sface had dissolved into liquid. It screamed and pounded on the glass window where the scientist sat behind, gray tears forming in its eyes.
"Oscar, lower chamber three's temperature to zero,"
The scientist finally commanded after a while, no longer able to bear watching this creature suffer.
"One of its weaknesses is humid lights,"
The scientist noted out loud for the recording to hear, but also wrote it down on their notepad.
"Yes sire."
Oscar responded to the scientist's command, beginning to freeze the chamber into ice. Everything froze into a lighter shade of blue except for the creature. The creature backed off from the window and turned its back away from the scientist, leaving black stains on the glass. Even though the creature had its back turned, the scientist could see that its face and dissolving body was healing. Not only that, but their arms and fingers seemed to get longer and larger too. The scientist was intrigued by their first discovery, and wrote down everything that they observed on a clipboard and paper while noting things out loud for the recording to hear.

The scientist sat and watched the creature grow bigger every second, then suddenly, it stopped growing in size. The scientist saw its body shake, and the creature's neck cracked in uncomfortable ways that sounded like snapping twigs as it turned its head around slowly back toward the scientist. Its head hung low and upside down, and a wide smile spread across its face. It stared at the scientist with unblinking dark gray eyes... not moving, still smiling. Several black creases formed on its cheeks and underneath its eyes, making it look like an old elder. Its smile was so increasingly wide it looked as if it would break its jaw any moment.
The scientist gulped, they didn't like the way it was staring back at them like that. The creature then leapt back at the window again and made a screeching sound that echoed through the chamber, and everything rumbled. The scientist grabbed something to hold onto and stabilized their footing.
"Replacement commander accepted,"
The scientist heard Oscar say, but was confused as to who the sudden new commander was. (And at the wrong time too)
"Opening all of chamber three's windows."
"What? No- Oscar, cancel the request!"
The last thing that the scientist wanted was facing the creature that was staring creepily back at them.
"I no longer take orders from you,"
Oscar said before the windows all slid open. Now the scientist was exposed in the area, no windows for protection, no available weapons. Just them in the control room with the creature. The scientist knew very well that the creature was kept in a locked up chamber for a reason, as it killed anyone that they saw. The scientist ran up to a nearby door to escape, but behind the door there was something blocking it. DAM IT- (Yes, it is DAM without the N). The scientist then tried to pry open a nearby vent, but they were too late, the creature leapt to the scientist and dug its claws into their leg. Now the scientist wondered why they should even pity this creature if it all did was kill.
The scientist screamed in pain. No, no, no, I thought I was prepared for this! The scientist thought, trying to get the creature off of their face. They kicked the creature's face with their good leg as hard as they could, the creature loosened their grip on the scientist, but it still held onto the leg firmly. That's when the scientist knew that this is where they die, it'll be like all those books and movies again, where an experiment went wrong. And this time, they were the victim. The scientist chuckled a bit at that thought and closed their eyes shut, waiting for their end. It'll all be over soon, it'll all be over soon, it'll all be over soon. They kept repeating those sentences, waiting for death to come. They felt their body being raised in the air and being slammed down on the floor three times. Every slam felt like their bones were cracking, oh wait, it's because their bones are cracking. The scientist couldn't move at all, their legs and arms felt almost numb, and the pain was everywhere. The creature did one more final slam, then everything went blank.

[Recording ended in the process]

I'm dead, it's over, someone will just have to take care of that creature, Oscar will help take care of it. It's no longer my responsibility.

Oh wait, probably not Oscar though.... if only it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be dead...

Is this how death feels like? Pondering thoughts in endless darkness?

The scientist's vision blurred and they opened their eyes briefly. They didn't have enough strength to keep them open longer. But they could tell that they were in a storage room.

I'm dead right? Am I not dead? Why did I see a storage room?

Am I dead?

Am I dead?

Am I dead?

I guess I'll just try not to think, my head really hurts...

I promise you that I am trying to make the chapters and words as short as possible, but I keep shoving you all a ton (and I mean a TON) of words to read. But WOO! Disaster struck immediately, what a great way to start off the story :D
