"Number 246" mr. Caverson called. I stood up and walk to the wooden desk covered in small paper scraps."Liza?" He says,"Liza! I haven't seen you in a few months! How are you sweetie?" "Same as I was when I came to get my winter uniforms" I told him smiling. It was the truth, I guess. Nothing has changed in my mind. My parents are still dead, my brothers still haven't returned from training, I'm still working at the water banks, i'm still running my household, my little sister,Lena, is still asking why we're alone now. I tell her to stop asking questions unless she wants them to take her away. The only reason I still have her is because I fought until They just gave her back. My brothers got taken away for training a few years back my eldest brother was fifteen at the time. He took care of us for about two years, but then he got called. So, it was just my other two brothers and I trying to take care of ourselves and our little three year old sister. I had to quit school to take care of her. I guess that's why she is so fond of me. But then, They got desperate. They took my other two brothers away.they were too young, but They didn't care. My ten year old and seven years old brothers were taken from me, just like everyone else in my life.so now It's just me and Lena, all by ourselves... Sometimes I lie awake at night staring at her, thinking if the commies hadn't came, we'd be ok. We wouldn't be suffering as bad as we are. Maybe my parents would still be here. Maybe we would be a happy family. Maybe, just maybe... We'd be happy. I started tearing up just thinking about it. "Liza? Are you alright? You have fluid coming from your eyes." Mr.Caverson snapped me out of my daydream. "Yeah...yeah, I'm fine"
"Is it because of the drafting today? Because you know Liza, there's more there are more than 700 hundred fem-" I cut him off
"What drafting?!"
"The big drafting today. You know, all females have to go down to town square today so they can pick new trainees."
"They only pick males"
"They...they've run out."
"what do you mean They've run out?!"
"There's no more I guess. So, today They are picking five females to begin immediate training"
My voice became softer"you're lying."
"Liza, I don't joke about these kinds of things."
I didn't understand, They've never done this before! It's always been males! How can they be so selfish! My fear quickly became anger! They can't do this! It's not right! Then I remember. My heart sinks "Lena"....
