Chapter 1

I narrowed my eyes at the girl in front of me. She looked so tired. Chocolate brown eyes rimmed red, with large bags underneath. Her long brown hair messily braided. She looked pissed off.

I sighed at my reflection and continued brushing my teeth. It wasn't helping that I was working extra hours for some extra cash. My eyes threatened to close on me but I lightly smacked my face. I would kill for some extra hours of sleep.

The things we do for cash.

I quickly washer my face and took a quick shower, the ice cold water successfully waking me up. Scrubbing my body I noticed I had just run out of soap. I rolled my eyes.

Ah yes, just what I need. More expenses.

Quickly drying off, I brushed my hair and put in some jeans and a tee shirt. I wore my sneakers and grabbed my keys and phone. Looking around one last time, I nodded before locking my flimsy excuse of a door.

Pretty sure I could knock it down and that's really saying something, considering I have no upper body strength. Or lower body strength. Or any body strength.

I walked out of my apartment into the busy streets. People bustled about, and a soft breeze hit my face. A man in a suit was yelling on his phone, while a young lady was trying to coax a toddler that she balanced on her hip. The kid's cries were punctuating the screeching shouts from the man on the phone. In the distance, a car was blaring it's security alarm, due to someone probably touching the car.

What soothing sounds.

My place of work isn't really far from my place so most of the time I just end up walking there.

I mean at least this count for some exercise, right?

I turn around the corner and come face-to-face with a quaint pastry shop. A sign on the roof spelt out. 'Sweet Tooth's Heaven.' The name felt kind of cheesy to me.

Walking in, I inhale the sweet and warm scent of hot cakes, doughnut and buns, fresh out of the oven. The homey scent of coffee assaulted my nose and my stomach began to grumble, reminding me for ignoring her needs. I caressed my stomach.

Soon, just wait a min.

"Audrey!" Charlotte screamed and gravitated and towards me, arms outstretched. I laughed and hugged her. "It's been so long since I last saw you." She pouted.

"We saw each other yesterday, Char." I smiled at her. She was my coworker with curly red hair, and quite striking green eyes. she also had some freckles splattered on her small nose which gave her a childish sort of cuteness. With a slim figure and long legs, she was one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen. She was also more or less my best friend.

"It's still been too long." She grumbled, grabbing a napkin to wipe down the counter with. We quickly worked together cleaning out the place while talking about anything and everything. The atmosphere was always lively with her around. After flipping the sign open, I walked towards the counter and put my hair up in a ponytail and went to the back to wear the shirt that was mandatory for all employees to wear.

After changing, I went back to my post and wasn't surprised to see that the place was packed. The cafe was just too popular and their pastries were heaven, hence the name. It was also pretty pricy. We raced up and down giving people their orders.

"And he was so nice to me and so cute, ugh," Char sighed dreamily. The rush hour had pretty much calmer down and we were free to talk. "I really think he might be the one."

I cocked my head and stared at her strangely. "He just helped you pick up a pen you dropped."

"Exactly!" She flopped dramatically on the counter. "That's probably how our romance story will begin. I can see it now..."

I chuckled at her antics, about to open my mouth and reply when the bell jingled, signalling a customer about to enter. Reflexively, I looked towards the door and couldn't stop the groan that left my mouth.

A guy just walked in. Chestnut brown hair on his head that flopped on his face and an arrogant smirk on his face. His muscled arms were wrapped around a tall blonde girl that was super pretty.

Matt Sanford just walked in and his eyes landed on me.

Ugh, kill me now.
