Sophie POV

As soon as I appeared at the Neverseen's hideout, the Neverseen member who light-leaped me takes down their mask. Lady Gisela. Of course. I forgot about her.

Lady Gisela calls out to someone named Glimmer, who I've never heard of before. Glimmer takes one look at me, and her eyes widen. "Is that-"

"The Moonlark? Yes. She willingly came with me," Lady Gisela pauses. "Does the Black Swan have a plan, Sophie?"

I shake my head. "I just wanted to actually do something in this war rather than just be played like a chess piece, so I decided to leave to the Neverseen. I'll tell you some information if you'd like?" I offer. Glimmer and Lady Gisela exchange a look, and Glimmer nods.

"Spill."

I tell them everything. The two Forkles, the Black Swan's plans. About how Marella is a pyrokinetic, and that Prentice is healed. About my letter, and how close the Black Swan is to figuring out the Neverseen's plans.

Lady Gisela and Glimmer are silent for a moment, before they nod. "Welcome to the Neverseen Sophie."

Mr Forkle/Sir Astin POV

"Miss Foster!" I call out as Sophie walks into the classroom. She looks up, swears under her breath, and ignores me. I sigh and call her over to my office.

As she enters through the door, she says, "Be prepared to fix Study Hall AND your office. Don't say I didn't warn you."

I ignore her. "Sophie, please come back," I beg. She shakes her head. "Then why?" I ask instead. Sophie sighs. "I slipped past your blocking when I told you about my abuse, and I could tell you doubted me. I want to prove to people that I'm more than anyone bargained for. I also want to actually do something in this... war... and we're both fighting for the same reason, just different strategies. And the Neverseen's strategy is better. And they won't play me and use me."

I still don't understand. "Then why didn't you tell me we should change our strategy?" I ask.

"You wouldn't have listened or cared, especially after I told you about my abuse. You pitied me, and don't try lying to me."

And at that, she walks out.

Keefe POV

"Foster, I need to talk to you," I say casually, so she's not suspicious.

She raises an eyebrow.

"I got a memory back," I say as a cover.

'What was it?' Sophie transmits. Guess my cover worked then.

'Oh it's funny actually. It wasn't really a memory, it was about a time when you joined the Neverseen...'

Sophie rolls her eyes. "Fuck you Keefe Sencen," she says aloud. Fitz, Biana, Dex and Marella all look up in alarm.

"Foster, you do realise you can't take the Neverseen down from the inside right?"

She nods. "That's not what I'm trying to do. What I'm doing is joining someone who's actually doing something and won't pity and doubt me."

"Wait. What are you talking about?" Fitz asks, his voice sharp.

I answer for her. "Foster thought it'd be a great idea to join the Neverseen."

Foster groans, and transmits a memory of her talking to Sir Astin just before. "Consider it explained," Sophie snaps, and storms off, leaving behind yet another note. But we didn't care about the note. We were more focused on the mention of abuse.

"Guess that's similar to the reason I joined the Neverseen. But I wasn't serious. She is," I say.

I sigh and pick up Sophie's note.

It says...

'So... I guess I showed up to Foxfire, and you guys just tried to talk to me. By the way, maybe get out of the Study Hall or Magnate Leto's office in you're in them. I've just gone to make Keefe's destruction of the school look like nothing. I warned you. Anyway, I'm sure you want an explanation. Let's go!

Pretty simple really. My human parents abused me. because I was a freak for being smart. End of story really. But yesterday, I told Mr Forkle about this, and he pitied me, and doubted my ability to fight. I joined the Neverseen to prove that I can do something and so I can stop being played like a chess piece. I want to be taught how to fight, and not have people worry about me or doubt whether I'm strong enough. My powers are a start (also, don't know why I never mentioned this before but I manifested as a Pyrokinetic the other day and Lady Gisela wants me doing classes with Fintan and Marella), but I can't rely on them.

Please don't hate me. This is necessary. Ooh game. Who hates me right now?

Keefe doesn't, nor does Biana or Marella.

Dex is unsure.

Fitzy is getting anger-issue problems and hates me right now.

I guess my decision wasn't my worst one...

Ok in all seriousness, please don't hate me and please, please, please, forget about me. I'm serious. Get a washer to wipe your memories of me if you want to.

I'll never forget you though.

Love,

Foster.'

We're all silent for a moment, until Biana speaks up. "I'm going to go to Sir Astin."

We all nod and sit in silence, letting our brains fully comprehend what the note said.

Biana POV

I knock on Sir Astin's door, and let myself in. "Sophie left another note," I announce as I enter.

"What does it say?"

I hand the note to him, and he sighs after reading it through at least one million times. "I didn't pity or doubt her! All it did was convince me that she was strong!"

I sigh. "You may've told yourself that, but Sophie wouldn't get it wrong. But more importantly, do you think that she'll really destroy the school?"

Sir Astin laughs. "Oh definitely. We should probably evacuate the school."

And right on cue, we hear screams, and the sound of glass smashing. We look outside, and see that the Study Hall roof has caved in, and the giant glass pyramid has shattered. Well lets hope we don't find someone curled up on the floor under a thick cloak.

Some rooms look like they're on fire, but the fire looks weird almost like...

"Everblaze..." I mutter. Sir Astin frowns.

"Since when has she been able to create Everblaze? She's only had this ability for a week or so!"

The sound of Sophie's voice on the PA system fills the school.

"Hello Foxfire. You all know me as Sophie Foster, but some of you know me as the 'Black Swan's Moonlark.' But the Moonlark is dead. Sophie Foster is dead. She was burnt by the expectation, pity and doubt from others. From the ashes rose and ember of flame. Ember was born. That's right. Sophie Foster is a Pyrokinetic, and is part of the Neverseen. Well, Ember is a Pyrokinetic, and is part of the Neverseen. Well have fun cleaning up my destruction and putting out the Everblaze!"

And then the PA system went quiet.

I rush down to where I left the others, and find that a thick cloak of silence and shock has blanketed the school. I break the silence. "Ok so..." I say. Once people hear me, they start talking again.
