(Immanuel Sr., Imani's Father, Pictured Above)
Imani's father had been blowing her phone up for the past few weeks. She already knew what that was all about, but she was trying her hardest to avoid the conversation. She knew she could only ignore him for so long so she'd finally made the decision to go and pay him a visit.
Now that basketball season was over and Jr. would be graduating soon, she knew that she had to go and beg her father to reconsider. Man was already receiving offers from universities left and right but it seemed like he had other things on his mind right now.
Imani knew that she had to get him far away from home before he made a stupid decision.
Imani yawned as she tiredly drove home from a long, slow day at the store. She glanced at the clock on the radio and read the time. 10:45 P.M. Imani wanted to do nothing more than get home with King and into the bed. And she was gonna do just that. So she put the pedal to the medal, trying to get to her mother's house quickly.
Imani hummed along to the song on the radio and she drove through her old neighborhood, constantly checking her surroundings.
"I know damn well." Imani mumbles to herself as she pulled farther into the lot.
She rolls her eyes before throwing her car into park and getting out with a quickness. Imani makes her way towards the group of guys hanging on the corner.
Pissed off wasn't the word for what she was right now.
"Yo ain't that yo sister?"
Man turns around and curses under his breath, knowing that Imani was coming straight for him. He wasn't in the mood to hear her bitching and complaining.
He shakes his head turning his attention back into the dice game in front of him.
"Man I know you hear me callin you." He hears his sister say from behind him.
He paid her no mind until he could feel himself being snatched up by his shirt.
"Man what you doing?" He asks jerking away from Imani. "Chill out."
"No what YOU doing? You stupid?" Imani asks. "You on the block this late? You serious right now?"
"Imani I'm grown aight? I can handle myself." Man says looking back at her before throwing the dice once again.
"I'm older than you so you gon do exactly what I say. Now get in the damn car!"
"Bye Imani." He waved her off.
Man turns around before Imani grabs him once again. "I said get in the damn car Immanuel! I ain't playing with yo ass!"
Man sucks his teeth before telling his homeboys that he had to go. He turns around and bumped Imani's shoulder purposely as he walked towards the car behind her.
Imani follows behind, the two passing words back and forth before they eventually got into her car together. Imani puts it in drive and gets back onto the road once again.
"What I told you? I told yo lil ass to stay off them corners. You don't listen!" Imani argued.
"You don't tell me what to do. I ain't no lil ass boy no more. I'm a grown ass man."
Imani looks over at him, also noticing that he'd had some new ink right on the side of his neck. 25th.
Imani rolls her eyes, not mentioning it. That would only cause more bickering between them.
Man didn't know why she was trying so hard to prevent him from doing what he was meant to do. Either way he was gonna be in the game whether Imani liked it or not. He was tired of her always telling him what to do or what she thought was best for him.
