Chapter 1
The Chase
They were after her. She could feel it; they would never rest until they caught her- dead or alive. She had finally decided that it was her fault: after all, it was her who trusted the mysterious stranger, with his blond hair glowing like gold and his deep crystal blue eyes... No! She rejected the thought of him – he was the one who killed Alinonato, the chief's only daughter. It was wrong for her to have aided his escape- yet she had. Why? Only the gods could know. The prevention of his death only woke the land and made it fight the clan, so surely the clan would perish and the land die. Starvation would hit the large tribe hard, but not her. She would have to run. Run fast and far- across the seas and over the mountains, through all the obstacles. They were after her.
He couldn't stop thinking about her. The way her hair shimmered in the moonlight. The way she spoke, so kind and gentle, no matter what it was she said. The way she sung, portraying to him an angel flying in the golden rays of the sunshine. Surely, he thought to himself quietly, as he sat beneath a great tree, having been rescued from the horrible death bound to await him since his appearance among the tribe and the death of the chieftain's daughter, surely she could not have been human. Purity of hers does not come in the form of humanity, yet there she had been, right in front of him – well, about half a mile away, fleeing for her life. Although he knew he was a danger to her, that moment it became his life's new mission to find her and keep her with him for all eternity. He knew she was the one. With this last thought in his mind, he fell asleep beneath the mighty oak, with a glimmering smile plastered on his perfectly featured face.
