Jack awoke in the middle of the night and was left confused on why he was on the couch instead of his warm, comfy bed. Looking down he saw Dave resting his head on Jack's shoulder, that's when the memories came back to him.

A few hours earlier
Dave groaned in pain and grimaced at the bandages that wrapped around his entire midsection. The purple man winced as Jack helped him sit down on the couch. Dave sighed with relief as his aching body rested on the soft, red sofa that lay in the livingroom of the Kennedy household. He felt the weight of someone sitting next to him and saw Jack sitting very close to him but Dave didn't mind. A little while passed with the two men watching Brooklyn 9-9 together as the rest of the group slowly left to go to bed as the night progressed, but Jack stayed right by Dave's side. The clock had just ticked over to 11 o'clock when the orange man spoke up
"Oh right, you dropped this." He said reaching into his pocket
"My knife?" Dave said as he looked down at the purple handle the lay in his palms "Thanks sportsy!"
"Yeah, I got kind of worried when I found it." Jack muttered
Jack thought he felt Dave move closer, the orange man glanced at the clock.
11:05
Time marched on as Jack kept shooting glances at the clock, 11:10 came and went, so did 11:20, and 11:30. Until the calm drone of the t.v. was interrupted by a loud BANG. Dave fell to the ground in shock as Jack shot up like he had been electrified.
Dave looked out the window and heaved a sigh of relief when he saw the bright colors floating in the sky.
"Why would anybody be shooting of fireworks this damn late?" The purple man huffed as he got his bearings
"No idea, must be some kids that got their hands on some." Jack lied as he shot another glance at the clock which now displayed 11:35 PM.
Jack stood and shut the blinds, he dropped onto the couch next to Dave and tried his best to focus on the show. He felt Dave's shoulder brush on his own, but Jack didn't mind, he felt his purple friend's head slowly lay on his shoulder but Jack still didn't mind. After a while he shot another glance at the clock.
11:53
The orange man was able to stop himself from sighing as he wished that the clock would just go faster.
"Hey Dave" he said "do you know what day it is?"
11:55
Dave looked Jack in the eyes and chuckled "Sportsy, I've been locked up for days. I have no idea what day it is."
11:56
"Well you see today is important." Jack began
11:57
"Very important indeed." He stalled
11:58
"Spit it out old sport." Dave exclaimed
11:59
"I just wanna say." He looked at the time
12:00
"Happy new year." Jack said before reaching up and planting a kiss on Dave's lips
