Hyejin POV
I got awake in the middle of the night. The howling and gusting of wind outside my cottage were extreme and scary. I can hear the heavy rainfalls and the thunderstorms outside, I'm at the beach I occupied for a while, Till I'm doing this new project of mine.
"Haist... God, please keep me safe." I heaved a silent prayer for myself. The electricity was out. I open the emergency lights that I found in one of the cabinets. I got jolted when I heard the telephone ring and scootered to answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"Ma'am, How are you doing? The storm is heavy and we're sorry for the inconvenience of your stay here. We're just checking if you need anything or if there is any leaks and damages in the cottage you are occupying." The sweet voice from the other side courteously said.
"Miss... Don't worry I think everything is intact here. I'm still fine. But..."
I shriek and squealed when the roar of thunder echoed outside.
"Ms. Hyejin? Are you okay?" The voice of the caller on the other line was so worried this time.
"I...I'm O-okay." I said sitting down on the side. Squeezing myself on the corner of the console table.
"Ms. Hyejin... Just stay calm and keep yourself warm. Hello?... Hello?... Ms. Hyejin, Are you still there?"
I don't know where my mind takes me at that moment. If I pass out or I put my brain to dreaming so I can escape reality and in that dreams, I'm with her.
I saw the girl beside me smiling while we are both walking on the sand hand on hand but as I walked further and look back, The footprint was only mine... I glance at her. She smiled. " Where's your footprint in the sand?" She smiled. " Hyejin I'm just your imaginary friend. How can I have footprints in the sand." What she said ruined the world where we are. I felt the sand slowly swallowing me whole.
"Hey! Help me! Please! What's this? Help!" the girl slowly walks away and faded. leaving me alone slowly drowning in the sands."Wake up...Hey. Ms. Hyejin." I heaved a deep breath-catching air to breathe felt like I was pulled down from the deep slumber. Exasperated I get up slowly and sit on the floor. I realize I fell asleep on the wooden floor. I gaze at those two pairs of enigmatic eyes that are checking on me. Those brown orbs are hypnotizing.
"Ms. Hyejin?"
I remained to stare at her, even the twitch of her lips and the slow blink of her eyes, her gesture gradually moves in my sight. I heard a snap like a hypnosis, I was back in reality.
"Huh?! Who are you? How did you get in?" I push her which makes her stumble down but gets her balance. I stand and crossed my arms on my slightly bare chest. I'm wearing my nightdress and it's a little bit revealing.
I can see how she smirked at my gesture but hides it with her smile.
"I'm an assistant manager here at the resort. I'm checking around and have been knocking for almost an hour and there's no remorse coming here inside. I'm afraid something happens to you so I barges in and saw you lying there on the floor.
I slowly braised myself. I felt conscious of her sticky stares. Brushing my unruly hair with my fingers and check my face consciously if there's any drool or mucus in my eyes.
"Uhm... I think you're perfectly fine so I should get going," she said starting to scurry to the door.
"Wait!" I said making her halt in her way then puzzled looks at me.
"Why? Do you need anything?"
"Uhm..." I open my mouth and think what I wanted to ask but my mind went blank. She stayed to wait for what I'm about to ask but I lowered my gaze confuse about what I felt at this moment. In the end, I decided to just shake my head.
