We were packing up for Christmas and saying our goodbyes. Daisy was talking excitedly about Egypt. "We could explore old tombs and see mummies and pharaohs!" she exclaimed. "What an adventure, Watson!"
"Yeah, Daisy, sounds thrilling," I replied sarcastically. Daisy only wanted to go on this trip with Amina because she wanted to spend time with me. She never liked Amina. Sometimes I wondered if that was really true, but I pushed those thoughts aside. Let's focus on the story.
"Oh no! Oh no!" Beanie fretted, a worried look on her face. "I-I think I lost it! Again!"
I didn't want to interrupt, so I kept packing quietly.
Soon, everything was packed. Daisy looked at me and mouthed, "So slow!" then stuck her tongue out. Kitty spoke up.
"Beanie!" Kitty said urgently. "I'm trying to find it! If you stop moaning, maybe I can!"
Beanie fell silent. Finally, I found the nerve to ask, "Guys... What's wrong?"
"Isn't it obvious, Watson?" Daisy replied.
"What happened?" Lavinia asked, coming out of the bathroom, wondering about the commotion. "I-I think I lost Chutney!" Beanie cried. Then she burst into tears and ran out of our dorm.
The dorm was eerily quiet without Beanie, who was usually the loud one. Kitty broke the silence, and Daisy winked at me. The Detective Society had another case to solve. I drifted off, daydreaming about it until Kitty interrupted me.
"I'll go get her," she said. "You guys chill out here, okay?"
"Okay," everyone except Lavinia agreed in unison. Lavinia was snoring loudly on her bed, so I had to wake her up. Everyone laughed at me. I just grinned and walked to my bed.
