After pulling out of the school parking lot I headed over to the middle school to pick up Liam and Noah. When I pulled into the parking lot they both jumped into the car and immediately and started going on and on about how great their first day was. I just listened and laughed at how excited they were. Several minutes later I pulled into our driveway and let them out.
"Bye! Don't do anything stupid! Mom will be home at 6!" I yelled before pulling out of the driveway and heading to work. The small records store I worked at was one of my favorite places, it was somewhere that I could just hang out and relax because it was so small and I never saw that many people from school there. After the twenty minute drive to work, I pulled into a parking spot and walked in the back door to the employee break room. When I walked in my manager Chris turned towards me.
"Hey Brad!" he called out to me, laughing. Cute nickname, right? No.
"Oh, very funny, don't call me that. I'm not a guy." I said, annoyed as ever. It's not like it was the first time I'd told him, he just never seemed to listen.
"Haha, okay okay, calm down," he laughed, obviously thinking it was much funnier than it was, "anyway, we're not that busy today. Tommy's on register so you can just walk around helping and greeting customers. Organize some of the shelves too, if they need it."
"Alright, cool." I went into the bathroom and changed into my uniform before heading into the store. It was relatively quiet, with only a few customers browsing through the aisles. After asking everyone if they needed help, I decided to organize some of the shelves that had been messed up. My back was to the door when I heard the chime signaling that a new customer had walked into the store. I turned to greet them.
"Hi welcome to-" I stopped when I realized who it was.
"Bradley?"
"Uh hi Caden, what are you doing here?"
"Someone told me this was the best record store in town...I didn't know that you worked here..."
"Oh, yeah. Well can I help you find anything?"
"Uh no thanks...I'll just look around." He quickly turned and walked away from me down the alternative records aisle. Several thoughts ran through my head. 'Great, I'm glad that he didn't want to talk to me,' also 'I wonder if alternative is also his favorite, like mine, or if he was just trying to get away from me.' I checked the clock to see how much longer I had to work, 'ten minutes,' I thought, 'good, I'll finish up then go meet Sam.' After the ten minutes were up, I went back to the employee break room and changed back into my normal clothes before heading out to the parking lot. As I was approaching my car I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"Wait, hey Bradley. Wait up." I stopped with my hand on the car door handle and turned to see Caden walking up to me. "Hey, look I'm sorry that I acted so weird around you in there. I just wasn't expecting to see you."
"Oh, it's okay..." I was surprised that he came to apologize to me.
"Well look, do you want to hang out? You seem cool and I don't really have anything better to do..." I could tell he was trying to make it seem like no big deal, he had a certain thing about him where he always seemed bored, although I could tell he wasn't.
"Um...I would but I'm actually going to meet Sam," I felt bad that I had to turn him down, especially because I did want to hang out with him, "but you can come too, if you want."
