The Gods created humans so that they could forever be loved and praised by them. Humans were to be eternally grateful for the Gods, and all that they give. Prometheus and Epimetheus were in charge of creating humans. Making them both man and woman, two sets of arms, two sets of legs, both genitals, two faces on one head. They were two in one. A balance. As time went by, the gods realized they had made a horrific mistake. Humans had become so strong and fearless that they threatened the Gods. Humans driven by the power to rule wanted to become the new Gods. Zeus, king of the Gods, wanted to destroy them by lightning, but it was pointed out by the other Gods that destroying the humans was not in option. The Gods craved love and praise so much it was their life source and without it, they would surely wither away and turn to ash. After many meetings and what felt like endless hours it was decided upon that as punishment for the betrayal that humans would be split in half. While the pain and misery was awful for humans it benefited the Gods, as humans multiplied they received even more praise. Even though the divide doubled the human's population, humans died off quickly. So sad and filled with pain, they stopped eating and drinking, dying a slow, painful death. Some Gods took pity on the humans, but no one dared to defy Zeus. Not wanting to face his wrath, they ignored the human wails that could be heard from the highest heavens down to the depths of hell. Only one God had the courage to truly end the suffering of humans. Apollo. Apollo felt the punishment was too cruel and took matters into his own hand. Reconstructing humans to have two arms and legs with a navel in the center to be reminded of their true origin. Human's physical pain ended because of Apollo. But their souls of their other half was always searching for its other half. When the other half was found, it was a euphoric feeling. A unison between the two. Silent understanding. A stranger feeling like home. The birth of soulmates.
