"Respect your elders" this was a phrase Walker Atwood was very familiar with, as his grandparenttts Archie and Ruth stressed so endlessly. Walker was a living counter to the stereotype of the demon child red head, he was a good kid. Now he would pick and tease his grandparents, he'd push them right to the edge and then back off right before the brink of a smack down, but when he wasn't testing his grandparents he was treating them with the upmost respect. Only respecting your elders according to Archie, means a little more than most, respecting your elders consist of listening, not cursing, speak to them and care for them when needed, and always trust their judgment no matter what, because they're ALWAYS right. If you follow those guidelines, you might avoid receiving that same lecture 3 times a day. Now Ruth was always getting on Archie about his stories, calling him a kook, but when grandpa told this story, she'd always shut up and let him speak. In his stories, Archie will always have a place or object that the character keeps returning to, and how he witnessed what was going on or how his buddy saw this or whoever was involved. Well anyway, Archie exclaimed that that he had seen many people go up to the dock at dawn, he said he'd look away and they weren't there anymore. Now I'd find this hard to believe because Archie and Ruth own near 200 acres of land and neighbors are no where in sight, but Archie's swears that's what he sees. After Archie tells this story, he always warns Walter not to go down to the dock at dawn. Walker never knew why grandma Ruth let him finish only that story, maybe it was true, maybe she's seen it happen herself, or maybe she just liked it, but regardless Walker still didn't care. If you can recall me saying before, that Walker always tries to test his grandparents, in total defy of his grandfathers guidelines, Walker would walk down to the dock that dawn. It was chilly and mist dressed the lake, he herd a familiar voice that froze him cold. He finally gained control of his feet and began to walk towards the dock. The mist at this point, almost engulfing his entire body. Walker could faintly here's his grandfathers hollers from the front deck, but was not detoured as he was in a sort of trance, he kept walking now unseen by anything beyond the dock. He gets to the end of the dock, feels the need to look up, and he does, meeting the eyes of his dead parents. When the mist cleared up, little Walker was nowhere to be seen.
