Ever since childhood Nayeon and Jeongyeon were as close as close could be. Their parents were friends, so it only made sense that the two kids would become friends as well. They were there for each other during every hardship and success. From an outsider's perspective, it looked like an ideal relationship. Not only was their friendship the cause of much envy, but so were the lives they lived.

Nayeon is popular, for good reason too. She's beautiful with enchanting eyes and a charming smile. Her personality is uniquely hers in the best way possible. Finding someone who would be full of so many contradictions as she is near impossible. She's both the most and least mature person in any room. She's the sweetest one in the room but also will playfully pick on anyone. Nayeon has always been quite smart to boot, being favored by every teacher and making the honor roll each year. Not to mention her participation in the school's choir, showing her talent with a solo at every concert.

Only recently, Nayeon increased her popularity by dating one of the guys in the choir. She didn't do it to get more popular, but given his status on campus, it was an inevitable side effect. He comes from one of the richest and oldest families in the province. Just another reason for people to envy her.

Jeongyeon is popular as well, but for different reasons. Similarly to Nayeon, her beauty is breathtaking. Her personality is a mix between a prankster and a mother. She's like a "wine aunt" (her drinking habits tend to lean towards beer though). She throws parties pretty often, indirectly inviting everyone. Her parties are the talk of the town, getting pretty wild when the clock strikes twelve and the rest of the neighborhood is asleep. Jeongyeon's academics are nothing stellar, getting B's pretty consistently. Almost all of her focus is on sports and choir, where she's the star soccer player and, similarly to Nayeon, gets a solo in every concert.

Things have been going great for both of them. Or at least it had been until a few days ago.

Out of seemingly nowhere, Jeongyeon ghosted Nayeon. She stopped showing up for choir practice, which is beyond abnormal. The only times in which she had missed practice were when she was sick or on vacation. In both of these situations, Nayeon was the first to know. All of Nayeon's texts have not only gone unanswered but also unread. She started wondering if Jeongyeon turned off read receipts or if she really didn't even open up the messages. All of her calls have gone straight to voicemail. She's left at least ten, maybe twenty, voicemails all pleading for an explanation.

Throughout all these years, communication has never been an issue. If a text message wasn't answered then it was almost a guarantee that a call would be. If the call wasn't answered then the next logical answer would be to go over to the other's house. Of course, there have been times when they haven't talked, but usually, a warning came beforehand. "I'm going on vacation so I won't be able to talk for a few days," or, "My phones going in for repair, come over if you need anything," were all pretty common and understood.

Nayeon decided that since her digital presence was clearly a burden or unwanted, she would give up on that approach. She thought it a good idea to go for the more straightforward option, she's never been known for being subtle after all. Tonight she was going to go to Jeongyeon's party and talk to her in person. It was a sure-fire way to get an explanation and work things out.

Jeongyeon sat in front of the tv watching Avengers: Infinity War for the fifth time. She was on the floor looking up at the flatscreen, not because she didn't have a couch but because she wanted a closer view.
In her hand was a half-empty can of beer and four empty ones scattered around her feet. The movie was nearing its end, she started tuning it out. She turned her head to the left, eyeing the large and intricate grandfather clock in the corner. Through blurred and doubled vision she made out that it was about 6:48.
