That day

(Gabby POV) I keep thinking about that view when Kane and I went swimming. I feel something deep within me that I've never felt before. I feel a mix of happiness and anxiety. I think back to that moment in middle school when we had our first argument. I told her that I liked her. How could I forget that happened. I started wondering whether she remembers it or not. She never gave me an answer back then so I want to know.

I'm laying down on my bed staring at the ceiling, deep in thought. It would be bad to remind her of it now. I'm going to college soon and won't be able to see her. If she does like me and I confess to liking her, we would naturally start dating. But on the negative side, we would be in a distant relationship if we were to date.
I'm thinking too ahead of time. Maybe we could date for a while until I go to college.

I quickly sat up with excitement. I can tell her how I feel and we can date for a month. Then we can, probably, go back to being friends until I finish school.

I grab my phone and begin to text Kane:

Gabby- Hey Kane, can we meet at the big cherry blossom tree behind the school?

Kane - Um Gabby, right now is not a good time sorry.

Gabby - why? What's going on?

Kane - ... ... (no response)

I start to worry and overthink about why she could be ignoring the text. Panic rushes through every vein in my body. Could it be something with her parents again?

I speed off my bed and go to grab my jacket from the hanger. I didn't even bother to tell my mom where I was going. I get in my mom's car and drive to Kane's house. Could I be exaggerating? I don't want to be too sure of myself. After the long red lights I finally make it to Kane's house.

I didn't even step a foot out of the car before I heard a loud scream. It sounded like Kane's! I sprint toward the door and see if it was open. It was, my hands were trembling fiercely, not letting me turn the door knob. I gripped as much as I could; the door opened and I quickly made my way in. I see Kane covered in scratches and open wounds. Her hair was being grabbed by a strong, slim hand in a bunch. Her dad stood with his leg in a 90 degree angle; the beer bottle in his hand explained everything.

My eyes tear up and my blood runs cold. I could feel my feet go numb. I did not waste a single second and ran toward Kane's dad. In an instant he was in pain, holding his cheek with blood flowing from his lip.

I could feel the steam coming through my ears. I don't know what blinded me but I don't remember what happened next. I opened my eyes again and saw Kane's mom against the wall with a bloody nose and messed up hair. I looked over at Kane the last second before she passed out. I ran to her and grabbed her limp and bloody body.

Gabby sobs," oh no... Kane, sugar, you have to wake up please..."

Gabby grabs her phone quickly and dials 9-1-1.
The phone rings...

Gabby mumbles between her trembling lips," please...! Pick up...!"

The call is answered by an operator:" 9-1-1, what's your emergency?"
Gabby stutters," Please help! My friend passed out from blood loss and needs immediate help please send help to ### #### ** please!"

Operator," I have sent over a team don't get off the phone okay? Tell me your friends current state."

Gabby hyperventilates between sobs," h-her every limb has a cut with b-blood dripping from them. Her lips are pale and the same with her skin... please help ma'am! I don't want her to die!"

Operator," okay, breathe, the ambulance will be there now, we can cut the call."

The call ends and Gabby hears the ambulance outside. The sky seemed to darken as the day became gloomy. Kane... don't die on me.
