Aurora, in her teenage years, was doing good for herself. At only 15, she was very involved at her school and church.
She was in all honors classes, other than her electives, involved with five different clubs, and played two different sports. Church wise, she attended Sunday worship every week, led Sunday school every other, and volunteered and summer camps yearly. To say she was her parents' pride and joy was an understatement.
Her brother, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. Anthony was in his last year of his high school life, hopefully, and had done nothing. His classes all below average for his age, his grades the same. It was clear that college was not a pathway he was striving for. Although, he was the oldest. So given that, his parents cut him some slack.
Then there was Ally. They all called her Ally, strictly because she refused to go by anything else. Her full name was Allyson, spelled just like that. Her parents claim it's because the name was just as unique as her. Really, it's because they changed it from 'Ally' to 'Allison' last minute, and the doctor decided to have a guess at the spelling. She was the youngest. Only eight years old. Nobody would ever say so, but she was an accident.
This was Aurora's family, and she wouldn't change it for the world. Despite their differences, they all lived in a perfect harmony.
It was the second day of their two-week spring break, and they planned a trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Ally had been begging them to go ever since she saw an ad for it on YouTube.
"Mom, wait, I need that one, too," Ally whined, struggling to point at her bed from the amount of stuffed bears already in her arms.
"Ally, hon, you can hardly carry the ones you have. Aren't those enough?"
"No! I need her!"
Their mother sighed, grabbing the bunny. "I'll carry it, just go," she said, gesturing her to the car. Ally jogged to the car, giggling as she put all of her animals in the trunk.
"We're only gonna be there a weekend, do you need all of those?" Tony turned around, teasing her over the back seats.
"Don't start." Mom showed up behind her, setting the bunny down. Warnings like this were common. Tony didn't get anything out of being nice to a child, or anyone for that matter, so why bother?
"Okay, last call. I'm not going in for anyone else's forgotten stuff," Aurora grunted. She was carrying Tony's entire suitcase in her hands, setting it in the trunk with a huff.
"Oh, shit, I totally forgot about that."
Aurora's eyes rolled as she slid in next to him. It didn't take long for them to hit the road. Mom and dad up front, Tony in the middle, Aurora and Ally on either side of him.
Ally bounced in her seat, unable to keep herself still, and continuously chanting, "Cedar Point, Cedar Point."
This was going to be a long car ride.
