CHAPTER ONE
I could feel the warmth of the spring sun against my face and the sweet sound of birds chirping. The tick-tick-tick of my clock which sat on my bed-side table right beside my head. As I gently opened my eyes only getting a blurry vision I could see what looked like huge white sheets of paper - my walls bright from the sun rays reflecting off them, lighting up my bedroom and piercing my sleepy eyes. My eyes widened, turning the blurry image into clear vision, as a thought raced through my head. With an urge of excitement flowing through me, I ran to the calender taped to the back of my door, it was finally the twenty second of January today!
Eager to spread the news, I ran downstairs where I found my parents eating their breakfast out on the patio admiring the wonderful weather.
"Morning dear, had a nice sleep?" "Morning mum, morning dad. Well mum actually-" Before I could finish mum interrupted "I bet you had a restless night! Probably thinking about all the things that you need to get done tonight!" "How do you know that mum? Are you like psychic or something?" "Aaliyah, it's not that hard to guess! It's all you and Alysha have been talking about since at least the last 3 months!" Dad chuckled as he drank his last bit of tea. "'SWEET SIXTEEN PARTY! SWEET SIXTEEN PARTY!' That's all I ever hear from you two girls!" Dad mimicked. I pondered over this comment for a while and I couldn't deny it because hey he was not wrong! "That might be true dad but, our voices are not that high!"
Just then the phone began to ring and I had a feeling I knew just who it was. "Hi Alysha!" I shrieked excitedly down the phone. "How did you know it was me Liyah?" "Because I was waiting for your call, just to say it's THE TWENTY SECOND OF JANUARY TODAY!" "I know, I'm so excited! We can finally start planning our sweet sixteen party! The party we have been waiting for, for ages!!!" "I know right! Wait a minute, Aly are you ready yet? Because we have to meet Katlyn the party planner at 11:00 and right now it's like 9:40." "No, I'm actually not ready yet I literally just woke up." "Same here, but it was not like I slept properly anyway, too excited!" "Tell me about it! Anyway, we got about 1 hour and like 20 minutes Liyah, so I'm going to go and get ready okay." "Okay, I'll meet you at your house at 10:30. Bye Aly!" "10:30? Okay, bye!"
I stared at the clock as I scarfed down the delicious breakfast mum had prepared for me; belgium waffles with syrup and melted chocolate drizzled over it, alongside a glass of tropical juice. Mmmmmm... As soon as I had finished eating there was no time to waste so I ran upstairs to get ready. After I had bathed I carefully looked through my closet to find something to wear. Something looked colourful and pretty yet sophisticated and mature; something that screamed I am nearly sixteen, I am mature! After all the party planner has to take me and Alysha seriously!
I rummaged around in my closet and found the perfect outfit! A pretty floral, high-waisted skirt that I could, perfectly matched with a plain t-shirt tucked into the skirt, finished with a light sorbet pink cardigan and my buckle detailed shoulder bag. "Thank God, the outfit is out the way! Now what should I do to my hair?" I picked a couple of magazines, that were lying on my dressing table, in hope that maybe I could get some inspiration from them. I flicked through the pages of my favourite magazine 'WOW' and nothing at all. All the hairstyles in the magazine were too extravagant and over-done for just a day out.
I walked over to stand in front of my mirror, admiring my long dark chocolaty brown hair that complemented my light greenish-greyish eyes perfectly. That's when it hit me, I could loose curl my hair to give it that sort of natural, effortless look. I turned to check the time and it was 10:03! I just about had some time to curl my hair and make it to Alysha's house. Even though she lived roughly five minutes away, in order for everything to be perfect, we have no time to waste!
