Alteria Capital

The Prince was sitting in his personal quarters. His mind was a jumble of thoughts. It had been 3 days since he last heard from Maryland Plains. He paces back and forth.

"Could they have been defeated?? No that's not possible. The wyverns were basically a guaranteed victory. There is no way her allies could defeat the wyverns. Wait...could those allies he heard so much about be that strong? No that's not possible. There weren't too many people strong enough to take down wyverns. So why then can I not get in touch with anyone?"

There was a knock at the door and the prince is startled at the sudden sound.

"Come in" he calls.

In walks in his knight.

He sits down at his desk. "Any word from the knights you sent to assist in the capture of my sister?"

The knight shook his head. "No, there has been no word for the past few days...my prince they may have been defeated.

"Do not be absurd. There is no way that they could have been defeated. The wyverns were my assurance of that. They may be still fighting."

His Knight shook his head. "I do not think so. If that were true we would still be receiving updates on the battle. You have to consider the possibility that our forces were defeated."

The prince leans back in his chair looking at the ceiling. His knight was right as much as he didn't want to admit it. If his forces were indeed defeated then his sister's next move would be to come for him. If that was the case then...

He looks back at his knight. "Then we will need to bolster our defenses in and around the capital...While I refuse to believe that our forces were defeated everyone is to remain on high alert until we receive good word."

He pauses and thinks. "Concentrate a majority of our knights inside the palace. Particularly the throne room. It is likely they will try to infiltrate through the hidden tunnels. That is all."

The knight gives a nod of acknowledgment and leaves the room.

The prince leans back in his chair once again looking at the ceiling. Sure he could run but then that's the same as giving up the throne and that was something he could not do. Perhaps he could turn this into an advantage. After all, defending is always easier than attacking.

Everyone was gathered around a table with a map of the capital of Alteria.

"So how are we getting into the palace? What's the plan?'

"A frontal attack would do no good. I mean it could work as a distraction but it'll just alert the prince. He may try to run."

The Princess interrupts, "My brother would never run. It would mean giving up the throne."

"Even so...we can't attack head on. We need an approach with more finesse. We need to infiltrate the palace quietly. Is there any way to do that?'

"There is. During the prince's coup, we used a tunnel to escape. We can use the tunnel to infiltrate the palace. The issue is the prince knows about it as well. it will probably be heavily defended."

"Are there other ways in?"

Arden shakes his head. "There are multiple ways in but they all lead to the same place."

"So in other words we don't have a choice"

Yes no matter what we will have to exit into the throne room.
