I was now at the edge of the woods eyeing my house. If I can get back into my room then I should be safe.

I sneaked over to some bushes close to the tree that leads up to my room. I looked up at the tree. I stepped away from it a little, and turned into my wolf form. Then I ran a tiny distance and jumped. I landed a few feet higher off the ground. I dug my laws into the bark so that I wouldn't fall back down. And after that I clawed my way up the tree.

I'm so close to my window. I'm almost at the top. I stayed in my animal form to stay a little lighter and to be more balanced. I reached the branch that normally got me to my window. Then I noticed something.

My window was closed. I scurried up to the window, as fast as I could without falling off the branch. I reached for the window seal. It was stuck, locked, closed. I tried to open it but I couldn't. I looked into the window. There was a window lock in place. Who put that there? Another weird thing was that nothing else in my room had been moved. The door was still closed. My bed was the exact same as when I left. My books were laid out on my dresser.

This isn't good. Then for a second I started to fall again, but I grabbed the branch before I could go tumbling down the tree. That was close. I strained to pull myself up onto the branch again.

I guess I'm going to have to sneak in through the front door. So I climbed back down the tree and made my way to the porch. I unlocked the door using the hidden key. I opened the door slowly and as quietly as I could.

If I get caught, I'm going to be in a lot of trouble. I sneaked through the door and turned around to softly close it.

"Where have you been?" My mother demanded from behind me. I turned around when I thought I was ready to face her angry expression. I flinched. I was wrong, I was not ready.

"I was... just... uhh...," I can't think of an excuse.

"And just as I was thinking that you have had enough punishment of being grounded. I go up to your room to tell you and you're not there! Your bed is stuffed with pillows and your window is open!" If this was a cartoon, her eyes would be completely white and narrow, and you would be able to see smoke arising from her head.

"I'm sorry," I replied on instinct.

"You're 'Sorry'! You snuck out! You scared me half to death," Mom fumed.

Then my emotions started to rise, "I wouldn't have had to snuck out if you and dad were more supportive. I actually made a friend who cares about me. The first friend that didn't just want to be friends with me because of my rank. One who has stuff in common with me," I argued, "You guys liked him, oh and then you find out that he's a different species, then it's 'omg he's dangerous. He's a monster. Lock him in a cage, along with our daughter." Mom was speechless. I glared at her.

"I...," Mom stuttered, then she replied softly, "We did that to protect you, Kayla. He's a fox, he is dangerous, and I know you know nothing of the great war but-"

"Oh I know about The Great War. I know more about the great war than you. The foxes think the wolves started it, and the wolves think that the foxes started it. But the truth is that it was a set up and it was neither!" I interrupted her, still frustrated. She thinks she was protecting me from a threat that isn't a real threat.

Mom looked confused. Her face was more pale than it was before. I stormed away before she could respond. I walked toward my room. But before I could get there, I ran into Dad.

"Kayla, why aren't you in your room?" he looked more confused than angry. And what I mean by that is that he doesn't look angry at all, just confused. He doesn't know that I snuck out. Mom will probably tell him later.
