━━━━━━━━━━━━after what happened during the fight, y/n lacked the sense of returning to class. she sluggishly dragged herself back to her dorm room, a nauseous feeling flooding her system. she couldn't believe what hime had said. in fact, she didn't want to believe it. zora had been by her side since day one, it couldn't possibly be true. making assumptions like this made y/n's headache grow. the thought of her best friend betraying her for her enemy was just too much to handle.
y/n paced back and forth in the center of the living room, complicating everything. "i don't want to believe hime, but what if she's telling the truth?!" she shouted furiously, yanking at the sides of her hair. "i need to ask zora directly. i can't just stand here and drive myself insane!!" and as if the gods heard her wish, y/n suddenly heard the sound of keys jangling at the front door. she almost jumped out of her skin once it unlocked.
"y/n?!" zora called out in a worried tone. spotting y/n from the entrance, she sighed in relief. "thank god, kuroo and bokuto told me that you got into a fight again! you need to stop hime from getting under your skin." she said, walking over in y/n's direction to hug her.
but y/n had pulled away.
she smacked zora's hand, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. was it all fake? was zora pretending to show sympathy? if she's truly worried, would it demolish the idea of her betrayal?
"get your hands away from me." y/n sniffled, tears rolling down the sides of her cheeks. she looked directly into zora's eyes with pain in her voice. "i can't tell whether you're acting innocent or not, so knock it off." zora stood confused as she tried to comfort her. "i-i don't understand what you're saying, y/n. why on earth would i pretend to be concerned about you? we're best friends, after all."
"are we, though?" y/n snapped harshly. zora was taken aback by her unusual attitude. she attempted to speak, but was cut off again. "do best friends usually spread rumors about each other? especially secrets that they'd rather keep private because they're too ashamed to admit them?!" y/n shouted.
zora tilted her head as she inched close towards y/n. "rumors..? are you talking about the controversy..? y/n, i-"
"i know that you told hime."
silence filled the air as zora paused her defense. she stared at y/n as if she were a deer in headlights. zora trembled, covering her mouth from speaking any further. y/n only clicked her tongue and avoided eye contact. "so i guess i have my answer.." she mumbled, awfully hurt. "if you had told me the truth from the beginning, maybe i would have forgiven you.. but you wanted me to think that you actually cared about me. you've been treading on thin ice, asuka aozora."
zora winced at the use of her first name. "l-listen, y/n. there must be an explanation for all of this! i swear that i didn't tell hime. she must have found out through somebody else."
"these stories aren't adding up, is it one or the other?!" y/n snarled angrily. "first you tell me that you're concerned about me, then you act fearful once i tell you that i know that you've been going behind my back, and now you're saying that you didn't do it?! you're starting to become very pitiful, zora. maybe i should've been the one worrying about you." she finished hastily, pointing at zora with her index finger.
"i don't know what hime said.." zora began, bawling her eyes out. she did everything in her power to try to seem calm, but the situation was too much for her to handle. "b-but i didn't do it, i swear! we were in a group chat with over ten people, y/n. it could have been anyone in there!"
"hime said my best friend told her!" y/n yelled, throwing her phone onto the couch. "and unfortunately, i used to refer to you that way! do you seriously think that i believe your bullshit?? do you think that hinata, mori, or bokuto would do anything along those lines? for fucks sake, zora! just give it up! you've already been found out, so stop trying to make me seem like the bad guy here."
"i'm not trying to antagonize you! i'm only trying to prove my innocence, is that so hard to understand? i never talk to hime. what could i possibly gain from this?" zora cried out, urging y/n to accept her point.
y/n shook her head, eyebrows creased. she had been dealing with zora's bullshit for over five minutes. "well i don't fucking know, revenge or something? we've known each other for years, it wouldn't be surprising if you held a grudge against me!" just then, an idea came to her mind. y/n examined zora up and down with a scoff following soon after. "hah.. you like kozume, don't you? you couldn't stand the fact that i was getting close to him, so you used this as an opportunity to drive a wedge in between us, didn't you."
zora clenched her fists, eyes closed. she took deep breaths in order to calm herself. y/n noticed this action and burst out laughing. not in a joyful way, but in a pained way. "i fucking knew it. if you wanted kozume that bad, you should've said something. you didn't have to take this to extreme measures and ruin my life over a boy. but it's too late. this ruined everything between us, and we'll never fix our relationship ever again. i don't think i'll ever be able to be friends with-"
"Y/N!" zora shrieked, stopping her from finishing her statement. y/n stopped for a brief moment, for she was startled by the sudden outburst. tears dribbled onto their hardwood floors as zora held her head down. she gasped for air, terribly shaking.
"i don't like kozume.. i like you! i have for years. i never said anything because i was afraid that my confession would destroy our friendship." she wiped a tear from her face as she continued to mutter. "but seeing as it's already been destroyed, i don't see the point in hiding it anymore. i've always liked you, y/n. you were always there for me, and i admire you for that. you always took my side no matter what, so i don't see what happened to make you change that."
zora continued to speak as she made her way toward the door. before turning the knob, she glanced back at y/n with a smile. "call me asuka as much as you want. i don't care anymore. go ahead and disrespect my name to your heart's content, it's my fault anyway. since you'd rather not be friends anymore, lose my number. thank you for what you've done for me over the years. hesitantly, she tightened her grip on the doorknob.
"a-and.. i'm sorry. goodbye, y/n."
zora slammed the door shut, the sound echoing throughout the dorm room. y/n was still attempting to comprehend what had just happened. zora.. liked her? how could she have not noticed sooner? y/n dropped to her knees, crying on the floor.
"i finally got rid of the person who started the rumors, so why do i still feel like something's missing??" she cried out loud. then, the sudden realization hit her. she remembered imagining that once the problem was solved, she would take zora and her friends out to relieve any lingering stress. and hopefully, they would all work together to help kenma and y/n get onto good terms again. but now that zora was gone, she became unsure whether those plans would even be possible. y/n cupped her face in the palms of her hands and continued to bawl out her sadness.
"why is everything so fucked up?!"
