I often include dark themes in my writing because I recognize these things as events that happen in real life. I believe media should represent the authentic human experience, regardless of story setting. Real life isn't picture perfect, and neither are my stories.
This story will contain depictions of disturbing content, such as drug and alcohol abuse, murder, sexual assault, sex trafficking, domestic violence, overly sexual humor, several characters that belong in permanent horny jail, teen pregnancy, extreme episodes of gender dysphoria, homophobia/transphobia, threats of harm, religious trauma, self-harm, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, cannibalism, and themes of oppressive systems. I also would like to remind everyone that the original work by Hans Christian Anderson was also very dark and was originally a queer narrative. This story has belonged to us the whole time, as even with the Disney movie most of the background crew were queer themselves.
