I awoke to the sweet aroma of pancakes filling the air. I got up and followed the sent to the kitchen where a rather good looking Charlie stood holding a spatula in one hand. I silently crept up to him and slipped my arms around his waist. “Morning.” I said in a happy voice. “What are you up to?” I asked “Oh you know the usual making you breakfast and also Shade and Nicholas. You know make a good impression and that we mean well. I’m still a little spooked at her reaction last night. I have to admit, I was shocked to know she had a power. I mean that is a true rarity that she has that.” He was turned to face me curiosity filled his eyes. I wasn’t ready to tell him I had a power too, and nervously wiped my sweating hands on Charlie’s black shirt that hung off my body. Before he could figure anything out, I redirected the subject back to Shade. “Well she sees it as more of a curse. She refuses to use her power, so her visions always come against her will when she isn’t wearing her emerald. Almost every vision she has is of something bad. Once she saw someone die.” I went a little Quieter on that last part. “Really, who?” he asked a little surprised. “Umm…” I thought about it then decided, he’d find out soon enough anyway. Her words came out as an unexpected mumble. “Our mother.”Silence filled the space between them, and I pictured the soft face of my mother. I was only young when she died. She was brutally murdered, by a criminal that was never found. “I’m sorry.” He said softy. He gently folded his arms around me. For some reason, his small act of comfort made my heart ache gratefully. Whenever I had to talk about my mother, I always felt so alone, but Charlie made it seem different, a good kind of different.

My body felt warm, still aching a little in some places, but I was comfortable. I looked up to the beautiful face before me and smiled. God this guy was hot. My eyes explored his perfect features and eventually landed on his lips. They were a darkish red and looked soft to the touch. I wonder what it would be like to kiss—Whoa! What am I thinking? I haven’t even had a conversation with him that hasn’t included visions, screaming and fangs and he’s already in bed with me! Crap this is bad. I was going to wake him when he moved slightly. I suddenly became aware of his hand, fingers splayed on the material that covered my back. Hair fell over his face, and I reached out, brushing it back. Before I could curse myself for my stupid actions, His eyes sleepily opened. He stared at me with those glowing emerald portals of his. I felt I could disappear in them. Too aware of the silence, I spoke. “Hi.” I said. He smiled “Hi” he repeated back. Before another silence could stretch on, he blurted out an apology. “Look, I’m sorry for last night. I honestly don’t know what was going on and—‘’ I cut him off understanding the awkwardness.“It’s ok, you can make it up to me by explaining everything later.” He gratefully smiled and my legs tuned to jelly. I shifted to sit up and pain soared through my muscles. I gasped, and Nicholas rushed to my assistance. Slipping an arm under my legs and supporting my back with the other. He placed me in to a sitting position, and I thanked him. Jeeze, where was he when I broke my leg a few years back. “Are you ok?” he asked, concerned. “Yea, just a little sore that’s all. I looked down at my pillow and noticed blood. My hand found Nicholas’ bite mark. I winced as my fingers touched it. Nicholas’ pupils dilated and a gush of wind whipped around me as Nicholas connected with my wound before my mind could assess his movement. He ran a Tounge over it and the stinging pain vanished. I had a desperate need for his bite, the feel of his teeth to pierce my flesh. Flow over me, but he had pulled away. “I’m sorry” He said shamefully looking down. I ran a hand over it again, and found it was completely gone. Not even a scar remaining just the soft skin that was my neck. I looked at him in shock, and ducking my head down to catch his gaze. “How did you do that?” I asked astonished. “Oh… it’s a vampire thing.” “Thanks.” I said happily. I was a little surprised I was happy in a situation like this one. He had made me happy. Hmmmm. That’s always a good sign. My thoughts paused when he returned his stare to my eyes, and I was locked in his gaze unable to move and oblivious to the rest of the world that surrounded me. It was quiet and relaxing. It was like all the sounds had hushed and the only existence left was the two of us. I didn’t notice when I moved closer to him. I didn’t feel the pain in my muscles the stinging my cheek wound screamed at me, and my skin buzzed when his hand held my body gently against his.
