I awoke to a beautiful cry. A tiny baby was on my chest and I was okay.
Han had punched my shoulder. She knew I wanted to see him. I checked. It was a boy.
I already knew the name.
Ashton.
Han got to pick the middle name.
"Hi baby Ashton."
I kissed his little head. Han smiled and looked so proud.
The doctors had already moved on.
I kissed his head. I got up and carefully got up, someone needed the bed. I walked to somewhere where we could get quiet: my office. Han now has roommates because she isn't sick anymore. She still can't take baths, but she's healing.
The baby cried, but I held him tighter and limped to my office. People carried guns around here, I couldn't stay.
I ran in the office to the chair.
I held my little baby tight. Han pulled up a chair after locking the door. She held out her hands and took Ashton. She looked and marveled at him and cooed to him. She was holding her son. Our son.
"Charlie."
The middle name.
Ashton Charlie River-Mason.
Our son.
