"We should have a kid."

Chester almost spit out his drink. How could he be so blunt about something like that?

"Are you serious?" he questioned, giving the devil a firm glare.

"Of course I'm serious! We've been together for 3 years, I think it's about time we had someone to take over should we pass," Norville responded. He was gesturing with his hands, a habit the devil has become used to doing when being serious about something.

"We have many angels and demons to do this work for us."

"Chester, any kingdom needs an heir or heiress. That does not mean just some random angel or demon from our army," he deadpanned, taking on an unamused expression, "Can't you go into your other form long enough to have a child? Please?"

Chester felt his coldness dissolve when he saw the other's pleading glance and clasped hands. He looked so... genuine. Maybe he could let it slip, just for a little while. Of course, Norville is the only person he would do this for. He breathed a sigh. "Fine. But only because it's for you."

Norville gave a large smile and embraced the other tightly. Chester gave a small smile of his own. Maybe this would work out for the better.
...
Nine months later, there was a baby boy in their arms. This was a baby demon, but they did not know this yet.

Chester was pleased, and so was Norville. They finally had someone to take over for them. They weren't going to die any time soon, but should a battle happen and one of them died, there was someone to take the place. This was all they needed.

Of course, they were going to treat him as a son. They were not going to treat him as an object his whole life. If they did, they doubted he would even be around to even see one of them die.

But, as time passed, the air around the kingdom became tense. The young demon, Elias, was growing up, and looking more like a demon every day. This bothered Chester. He wouldn't let that show, but he did not expect a demon. He expected an angel to take over for the kingdom. There was nothing wrong with Elias; oh, no. It was quite the opposite. He was about 6 now, and growing into a fine young boy. It was just his race that bothered the god.

"There should be at least some angel genes in him," he thought out loud one day. He didn't mean to say that, though.

"Angel genes in who?" Norville asked, stepping into his room and raising an eyebrow.

Chester panicked and accidentally blurted out, "Elias."

Norville looked taken aback by what the god had said. "What's wrong with Elias being almost fully demon? Why are you looking for angel genes?"
The devil was growing angry. He was very defensive of his son, so hearing this wasn't a pleasant thing to him.

"Well... I just sort of... expected an angel, is all." Chester tread lightly. He didn't want Norville to start yelling. Although, he was beginning to become angry himself, but he wouldn't let that get in his way.

"Well, okay, that's great, but is it bothering you that he's a demon?" Norville was raising his voice now. The god shouldn't have a problem with his own son. That's the last thing he should have a problem with.

"It is, actually. I don't want a filthy being running our kingdom." Chester put a hand over his mouth. He didn't mean to say that. He said it in his anger. "No, wait, Norville, I-I didn't mean-"

Norville narrowed his eyes. He clenched his fists and exhaled harshly. "No, I know what you meant. I know fully well. We're filthy. I get it now." He loosened his grip on his hands a bit and looked Chester directly in the eyes. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Your opinion of our race?"

Chester stood up and tried to walk towards Norville, to do something to calm him down, but instead he felt the anger swelling up inside of himself now. He couldn't hold it back anymore. He didn't bother answering Norville's question.

"You know what? You are filthy. You're absolutely disgusting. You and your terrible child," he spat at the devil. He felt tears prick at his eyes as he said this. He didn't even know why he was saying this. Was this how he truly felt?

Norville's eyes widened considerably when Chester said 'terrible child'. He stepped dangerously close to Chester.
"I can't believe you," he hissed, pointing a finger at Chester's chest. "Do you really-"

"Papa?"

They both froze. Norville felt a weight on his leg, and he looked down. Elias was hugging his leg and looking up at him.

"Oh, um... Hello, Elias. Do you need anything?" he asked, dropping all of the anger in his voice at once.

"Were you fighting about me...?" Tears were welling up in his eyes. Norville felt a large pain in his chest and he picked Elias up, holding him close to his chest.
"Shh, don't cry, don't cry, sunshine. We aren't fighting anymore... and we won't be for a long time." Norville turned to walk out of the room, but not before turning around to face the shocked god.

"Once more... we are two kingdoms. If you can't deal with us, then we shall leave. We are enemies. This is no longer your child."

And he left.

Chester stood there, silent until it was dark outside. He decided that it was time that he move, so he went to sit on his bed.

"No, it no longer is."

He raised his hand slightly into the air, and a yellow aura surrounded it. He muttered something under his breath, and then laid down.

He had wiped Elias' memories of Chester ever being his 'mother'. Soon after he was grown, he would forget all of Norville's kindness towards him, as well. He wouldn't leave Norville unscathed in this.

"Goodbye, Elias."
