The harsh February air hit me like a ton of bricks. I winced, pulling in the black jacket that hung from my body in an effort to conceal as much heat as possible. My scrubs rubbed together making a swishy type of sound as I walked down Wall Street to the subway. I galloped down the steps, pushed and shoved by the horde of grumpy secretaries, stockbrokers and interns that filled New York. Squeezing my way past the crowd, I jogged to the metro card-swiping machine. I took a deep breath in and the subway's thick smoggy air filled my lungs. Instantly remembering my hate for the subway, I swiped my metro card. I raced through the turnstyles just as the subway doors opened. I darted through the door, plopping down on the cold seats. I rubbed my hands together to keep the warm, and then hid them in my pockets, feeling the gum wrappers that stuffed the holes. I sat down on the cold seat panting for breath. I observed the subway car my eyes stopping on a girl in her mid twenties with mosey features and thin hazel hair that   a small crying child in her hands. She looked tired and was hunched a little from the bag on her bag I got up offering my seat to the women.

"Thank you "she whispered with a relive look on her face then sat down

I smiled "no problem" replying softly

I tried to leave it at that but the ill look that the young girl possessed would not allow me to ignore it any more. as the door's opened and people flooded out of the  subway car to i grabbed a seat next to  her

"Did your baby just eat?"I said feeling somewhat weird asking that question

"Yes I just feed her I don't know why she is crying"

"She probably has gas you should try tilting her a little" I nudged her arm up a little and   the baby let out a burp

          "You have kids?"

She had a puzzled look on her face "you look to young to have finished all that school "

"Well Iam not exactly a nurse yet Iam a going though training still"

"You're a new mother?" I asked out of my own curiosity

"What gave it away was the crying baby "

I giggled "only a little" the doors screeched open

"Well this is my stop" I grabbed my bag and headed toward the door out to the turns styles

Ring ring

I grab my phone out of my bag answering it

"Hello "I answered abruptly

"Hey skylar where are you?"Leah said

"Yeah Iam walking down perking street   right now" I said as my walking turned in to jogging

"Good because Ms Wallenberg is about to prep for surgery"

"Ok ill be there in a minute"

"K bye"

I   stopped at the hospitable doors and pushed the strands of hair that had fallen out of my bun  back in to place.opeaning  the door I seen Leah  and the class walking towards the  operation room I ran  up to her and acted as if nothing happen. Ms Wallenberg to busy yelling at one a student to notice my presents

"Where were you "she whispered?

"I woke up late"

"Really "

"Yurp"

"Sky if you're going to lie to me at least give me a believable one"

"Who said I was laying people wake up late"

"Yeah just not you"

"Well I did"

"You spent the night at his house again dint you?"

"Yeah"I said hesitantly

until I heard ms Wallenberg's whinny  voice" skylar How long can you wait before sewing a severed finger back on? "She narrowed her beady eyes on me   this was her way of challenging   me

"12 hours for a finger 6 for the leg and 4 for the arm "I said returning the nasty glare back at her

She turned around starting to walk again down the white halls of the hospital her heels clicking each step she took lie a ticking clock"so to day we will be in the observing room watching a arthroscopy surgery be performed"

"And she wonders why she cant get a date" I shrugged we laughed quietly

All the students started to flood in to in to the mahogany doors with a shiny silver handle's on them and the blue and white tile walls that surround the doors. I approached the doors and Ms Wallenberg standing on the side of them gesturing her students in the observing room. I was the last one in and grabbed   seat next to Leah in the front stationing my bag on the floor getting out my notebook and pen. the room was grey and  had a big window  opening up in to the operation room  with 20 chairs set up in the small grey room  . it was  weird how  different the operation room was and the observing were as if seeping in to a parallel universe. The operation room filled with equitment and the  white walls with blue lining and greate blue lights while the obsevering  room was  small and dim with only  a few chairs  in it  and a t,v  in he Conner wall  to see  close in the operation

"every one settle down while be here for  a couple hours " she  said  and the surgery began  and the doors closed
