It's been about two weeks since James took you back home after your outburst. The holidays flew by, and it was like nothing had changed. He was still your boss, and you were still his assistant. He kept up his routine of bringing you coffee in the mornings; no other kisses have been shared, but he has been a little more handsy.

When you join him for lunch, he keeps a hand on your back as he guides you through the building. When he meets you in your office in the morning, he scoots closer to your desk, as if trying to get closer to you behind the confines of your desk. His fingertips graze over yours as you take the cup from his hands, sending a tingle down your spine.

It was Wednesday as James skimmed through his emails at his desk. His head was held up by his hand resting against his chin. He was waiting to hear you walk into your office that was right next to his so he could see you that morning. He tapped his fingers along the face of his desk as he waited.

You rummaged through your purse as your phone rang. You were in the elevator, heading up to your office. You pulled out your phone, seeing Thor was calling.

"Hello?" You asked once you swiped answer.

"Y/N!" He said loudly on the other line. "How're you?" He asked. You could hear the slight panic in his voice as he spoke.

"I'm okay. Are you? Is everything okay?" You asked, rushing into your office and closing the door.

"Sure." He sighed, contemplating on if what he was about to tell you was really that important. "Just, be careful the next couple days?"

"Thor, what's going on?" You could feel the knot in your stomach build when a soft knock was heard at your door. You tossed your purse onto your chair, rounding your desk as you listened to him.

"Are you alone?" Thor asked, trying to make sure you would stay calm.

"Uh, no." You replied, opening the door. James gave you a soft smile as he handed you the cup of coffee, he'd gotten you that morning.

"Who's with you?" Thor asked, growing impatient.

"James. Why?" You replied, turning away from James as he stepped into your office behind you.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Thor asked, clearing his throat.

"Yes, now what is it?" You snapped slightly, getting annoyed with him.

James gave you a confused look as he sat across from your desk. "What's going on?" He whispered, taking a sip of his coffee.

You shrugged in response, waiting for Thor to continue. "It's Aldrich."

You could feel your heart stop for a second at hearing his name. You could feel your eyes grow wide and your palm grow sweaty as you responded. "What about him?" You started fidgeting with some papers on your desk. You hadn't noticed it until James reached over, grabbing your hand.

You looked up, finding his gaze already on you. You nodded, taking a deep breath as you listened to Thor. "He's going to New York for the weekend. Try to stay home. I don't know what he's going for, but please be careful." He said. He continued when you didn't respond. "Are you gonna be okay, Y/N?" He asked.

"Y-yeah. I'll be fine. Thanks for letting me know." You replied, quickly ending the call and slamming your phone down.

"Y/N?" You heard James in front of you. If you were being honest, you'd forgotten he was there even with his hand in yours. He was drawing patterns on the back of your hand, as you were on the phone.

He stood up when you started to hyperventilate. He rounded the desk quickly, pushing your chair back so he could have space. He kneeled in front of you, taking your face in his hands. Your eyes were squeezed shut and your hands were gripping the arm rests of your chair so hard that your knuckles were white. "Hey, look at me."
