Mackenzie's POV:
The sun gleamed on the roof of the Vertes' rented black Sudan. "Kenz! Mads!" Kendall shrieked. The sun was beating down on the porch of the restaurant, heating our heads. Mom yanked the door open and we all took a refreshing step inside. The wind from above zoomed upon us like a storm. "Ahhh we needed that." I say. I squint to the corner of the small, overpopulated area. Nia stood straight up, her curled hair bouncing as her hand shot up in the air, wiggling with all it's might. "Nia!" Maddie called out. She shoved her way through the crowd, squeezing Nia. Kendall took her into her embrace as well. As for me, I slowly made my way with awkward "excuse me"'s and gave my fingers a wave. "Hi Nia." Things with her aren't really the same since "the big thing" that we all swore never to talk about. She smiled awarded and began to jump into a conversation. "So what'd you guys do without me?" She asked innocently. "Er- just the pool you know." Maddie said nervously. Kendall beckoned the girls to the menu and everyone got up. "Omigosh the omelet and hot chocolate sounds good." I say, licking my lips. "Maybe the garlic toast would be nice." Maddie muttered over the buzz and clatter of silverware. This reminded me of Panera Bread back in Pittsburg. A wooden weaved basket sat on the counter where the cashier stood, serving the purpose of telling you when your meal was ready. Although the decor insisted strongly of beaches. A comfortable thing, for a change. For a second, I clear out everything in the environment and swivel my body, engulfing the interior. A mermaid was plastered on the right-hand corner of the bakery area, covered entirely in silver paints and carvings. "Kenz- Mackenzie!" Maddie snapped. The girls had all cleared aside, and the cashier was standing in front of me with an impatient purse on her lips. "Sorry, sorry." I choke, my cheeks reddening. I cleared my throat and began to order, "I'd like a country style pepperidge omelet and a hot chocolate, double cocoa powder." Nia taps her foot from the corner of my eye and I scowl under my breath. The cashier, with the name tag "Emma G." takes my credit card and swipes it hastily. Kendall takes the buzzer outstretched from her hand and we go back to our seats. The cold, white leather makes me cringe with my denim mini-skirt. We spend a few awkward minutes staring at the walls until Kendall lets out a shriek. The buzzer collapses on the table. "Oh please!" Maddie laughs, grabbing her arm and the buzzer, storming over to the counter, obviously hungry. A different cashier prepares the last of our forks and napkins, politely laying it out. I grin, taking my own tray and walking over to the table in the corner opposite from the moms. I hear a roll and a clatter, all of a sudden random silverware spreads everywhere on the ground and I trip over a few. My tray flips over and the china holding the hot chocolate shatters, the boiling liquid splashing everywhere on my face. "You know, maybe those heels weren't meant for you anyway." Says a cold voice. With my chin tipped up, from what I could see, it was Nia walking away to the door, greeting the gasping Chloe that just walked in.
