"hey claudia, do you know where billie went?" i could hear finneas ask. "no. why?" claudia responded.

i had locked myself in the bathroom, too scared to come out. i had slipped at claudia's house, and to make matters worse, lilou was at an auction today and wasn't answering her phone.

my phone was discarded beside me, my knees up to my chest as i sobbed quietly into them.

"you know what, you go back to what you were doing and ill go look for her." i hear claudia say to my brother which was relieving some, but i still didn't want to be found even if it was claudia who was to find me.

it took a few minutes for the footsteps to come over this side of the house, but once they did i held my breath. my heart hammered in my chest, silent tears falling down my cheeks. claudia knocked on the door with her knuckles, startling me.

"billie..."

"no!" i squeaked.

"no? then who else is hiding in my bathroom?" she asked although she knew it was me. "can you unlock the door?" she asked hearing nothing from me. "mm-mm," i shook my head even though she couldn't see me.

"it's okay. it's only me," she said. "finneas is in the basement."

i grunted in disapproval again. "i can unlock the door from the outside with a special key, if i need too. but i want you to do it." claudia said, making me panic. "no! don't!" i cried out. "i need to know if you're okay, billie. please unlock the door for me."

"'m okay," i told her with a sniffle. "i don't believe you," she replied.

my phone buzzed on the floor, so i quickly picked it up.

i whined and threw my phone down onto the floor. i reluctantly crawled over to the door and sat up on my knees so i could reach the handle. i unlocked it and scooted back. the handle turned and the door pushed open, claudia peeking in.

"thank you."

she sat down on the floor with me. "what's going on?" she asked, her eyebrows furrowed together. i leant against the cabinets and sighed. "want mommy. miss her," i mumbled wiping my face. "here," claudia said pulling my hand down and handing me a tissue. "i'm sure you do, and i'm sure she misses you too. but lilou's got responsibilities that she has to tend to first." claudia explained, which didn't help. it only made me more frustrated.

i tore the tissue up and sprinkled it on the floor.

"it doesn't mean you aren't special to her though, she loves you very much and would rather be with you,"

"want herrrrr!" i whined, sliding down the cabinet and kicking my legs about. "billie. billie, look at me," claudia asked grabbing my hands to get my attention. i looked at her, a frown spread across my lips. "do you wanna watch a movie while we wait for lilou to come back? by the time it finishes she'll be back," claudia suggested to pass the time.

i thought about for a second and agreed.

"okay, c'mon," she said getting up and holding her hands out to me. i took them and she helped me up. "finneas?" i asked as we walked out to the living room. "i'll make sure he stays down there don't worry," she reassured. i sat down on the couch. "what movie do you wanna watch bil?" she asked picking up the remote.

"hocus pocus! i watch it with mommy all the time"

she searched it up on her tv and pressed play. "sounds good. i'll go occupy finneas, you gonna be okay up here?" she asked. i nodded, not looking away from the tv.

"billie? wake up ma chérie, it's me baby,"

i opened my eyes to squint around me. "mommy?" i croaked. she nodded and sat down on the couch beside me, "yeah it's me, my love." i sat up wearily and climbed into her lap. she wrapped her arms around me, letting me sink into her. "aweh billie, are you still sleepy?" she cooed, pressing a kiss to my forehead. i nodded into her, my eyelids drooping shut. she laughed lightly and brushed my hair out from my face.

"you're so cute," lilou whispered.
