"If you are reading this, I must have died before I could confess. Don't cry for me. I know I was everybody's favorite teacher and coworker, but please remember that I hated each and every one of you." It would probably be best if our story didn't start here. You might have lots of questions. You probably want context. Let's start from the beginning of this story. We lay our scene in a third grade classroom, at a small boarding school in a small town called Smoot, Wyoming. This classroom belongs to a woman in her late forties. She's a strict woman with dark, graying hair pulled up in a tight French twist. She wears a red shirt with a black cardigan on top and a black skirt stopping just below her knees. She's a tall, skinny woman. She's often referred to as skeletal. Her name is Ms. Topless. A rather inappropriate name for a third grade teacher, but you'll soon learn that this school has other things to deal with. For example, the students in this class are- how should I put this? Mature for their age.
A bell rings as the students enter the room. The first to enter is a red haired boy named Calvin. He's great company...when he's sober. You see, Calvin has a couple of addictions. The first one would be juice. Apple juice to be specific. He drinks it all the time and is often seen with a box or two. The second addiction is smarties. He doesn't eat them. The poor boy is a smoker and usually has a roll or two with every juicebox. The jeans he's wearing have holes in the knees and the hood of his dark blue jacket is pulled over his eyes to shield them from the light. Almost as if he's nursing a hangover. He takes a seat at the desk in the far corner of the room, away from everyone else.
The next to enter is a girl named Skyley, chomping on her gum like a cow. Skyley has straight, brown hair that reaches just below her shoulders. She's got a skinny face and big eyes. She's wearing a purple t-shirt and a gray jacket that is unzipped. Unlike Calvin, her hood is down and her jeans have no holes in them. At a glance, you'd think she has her life together, but if you talk to her, you'd quickly find out that her brain is as stale as the remaining biscuits after a voyage. She pops her gum loudly as she takes her seat located in the center of the room.
Now, don't be confused when you read the next two students to enter. Read both names carefully.
The next two students enter with their arms linked at the elbows. Best friends. The girl on the left has brown, curly hair that, if straight, would reach the middle of her back. She has a round face and body. She's a serious girl. No one has heard a joke out of her even once. Her name is Kenzie. To the right of Kenzie is a girl with long, blonde hair that reaches her waist. She's tall and skinny with a round face. Think of a cinnamon roll. Now turn that into a personality. That's exactly what this girl's personality is. This girl's name is also Kensie.
After the two Kenzie's enter, another girl comes in. In one hand, she's casually lifting a 25 pound weight. In the other, she has a book. The book is open and she's reading it quickly. I'm not sure how she turns the pages. Her name is Claire. Her long, brown, frizzy hair is pulled into a tight, high ponytail at the back of her head. She takes a seat next to Skyley.
We'll skip the introductions for the rest of the students for now because class is about to start.
"Bonjour class! Now I know that third grade is hard but you only need to survive one more week until Spring Break." Ms. Topless says in a French accent, clapping her hands once in front of her. Claire closes her book and looks across the room longingly at a boy who is trying to finish next week's homework. The boy's name is Leaf and all that needs to be said about him is that he was Claire's boyfriend and he's a workaholic. An overachiever.
"My boyfriend already broke up with me. I won't survive!" Claire wailed, burying her face in her hands. Her shoulders move up and down as she cries, hiccups attack her every time she tries to inhale. Ms. Topless freezes, not knowing what to say to that. Skyley awkwardly pats Claire's back, looking at Ms. Topless for advice. Ms. Topless simply shrugs.
"Oh stop your crying you big baby! Not everything revolves around you!" A girl in the back next to Calvin named Adaline snaps. Adaline has long, blonde hair that's always in a Dutch braid. She's the third grade bully who does whatever she wants because she thinks she can. Skyley turns around in her seat, sending a nasty glare at Adaline.
Leaf hesitates before quietly saying, "Look Claire, you were just... too manly for me." He shrinks a little in his seat as Skyley whips her head around from glaring at Adaline to glare at him. Claire lets out another cry before taking a couple deep breaths to calm herself.
"Everybody quiet! This isn't a zoo. Everybody, take out your textbooks, and turn to page 43. Claire, can you start reading?" Ms. Topless says, quieting the class.
Kenzie slowly stops paying attention as Claire reads. History's boring anyway. Leaning over to Skyley, she whispers, "Don't you think it would be fun if Spring break came early?"
Skyley chuckles quietly before saying, "Of course, but that would be crazy! How would that even happen?"
"I don't know. Maybe if a teacher died." Kenzie says, shrugging. Both chuckle before turning their attention back to the class.
"As if. That would never happen." Skyley mumbles to herself.
"'In conclusion, America is better than every other country' This seems bias, I think-" Claire's cut off by the bell ringing signaling the beginning of recess.
"And with that let's go to first recess." Ms. Topless says.
