My feet made tiny squishing sounds on the damp floor as I walked between the towering trees, ducking under low hung branches . It was already getting dark, the breeze rippling through the leaves above my head making the air chilly. But I needed to keep going, I said I would meet them there. And I Would
"Tori Ashford is not afraid of the dark" I mumbled to myself. "I am 16 years old, not a child. There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of, its just some trees. Some very dark trees..."
I came to a halt at a turning.
I had come to a three way fork in the forest path and couldn't remember which way they said to go, they said one way was shorter then the other and one of them didn't lead at all to my destination. I hesitated for a second, then jogged down the left path. As I walked the trees become more closely packed and I became more anxious to arrive. Occasionally there was the scurrying sound of some tiny animal running up a tree, but it was mostly just my footsteps and the odd rustle in the leaves.
I looked to my left and I thought I a gleam of light, I looked closer and saw that is was a reflection of the moon above peaking through the branches. But what's reflecting it? I strained my eyes to see, to make out the rest of the thing. Suddenly, I realized that it was eyes, animal eyes. I gasped, staggering back a little, then turned on my heel and sprinted down the path, terrified that the thing will follow me.
I checked behind me every few seconds to make sure I wasn't being pursued, though I continued running even after I was sure that I was safe. I just want to get there, with them I'll be safe. I've never been particularly fond of woods, but after that I think I hated them.
In the distance I saw fire light, I let out a sigh of relief, and slowed down to a walk, my breath making little white shapes in the air.
I heard a squeal as I arrived. "TORI" yelled the figure running towards me.
Kate had been my best friend since I was 11. Okay, my only friend. She was a year older than me and protected me like a older sister and I loved her like one, I grinned as I saw her running, her blonde hair flying out like a horses main.
I felt a small twinge of jealousy, Kate was stunning. With flowing blonde hair and large captivating blue eyes. She was the kind of girl who stopped people dead in their tracks, if she were not my friend I would probably despise her.
Her arms tackled me into a hug, It was only then I heard her sobbing. I pushed her of me and held her at arms length.
"Katie, what is it? Are you okay? Where are the others?" she just shook her head and continued to cry. Her shoulders shaking.
"I.. They.. They never came.. and then this thing was here.. and"
I never got to hear what she was going to say.
She screamed as she was pulled out of my grasp. I tried to run towards her but strong arms held me in place. I tried to scream, tried to struggle but it was helpless . A cloth covered my mouth and nose, and my flailing limps flopped to my sides.
"Be quiet " was all I heard as the world went black and my legs fell from beneath me.
