The rain was pouring harshly on the windows of my car. It was getting harder to see, even with my windshield wipers on. I squinted my eyes in a attempt to see the road properly, obviously it wasn't working because I could barely see the road in front of me."Note to self, no more road trips by myself." I huffed to myself out loud. It was spring break and I felt like a little alone time would do me some good after all this stress but now that I've been trapped in this tiny car for over 6 hours, I can feel the stress coming back. My phone made a low beeping sound meaning it was low battery.
"Fucking awesome." I sighed with frustration and try to observe my surroundings through the storm, still squinting my eyes with difficulty. I almost crashed my car for the tenth time while swerving of the road because how slippery the road gets when it rains. No phone, Can't see where the hell I'm going. I love road trips.
Luckily for me, I spotted a bright-red, neon light in the midst of the rain storm. I decided to take my chances and turned my car to the direction of the light.
The sounds of my tires driving over rocks and rain falling against my window filled my ears. I got closer towards the light, I noticed the light was a large sign in capital letters that said : HOTEL.
The hotel was a brick structure with ratty windows and rusted doors. I gave me kind of a bad feeling but I couldn't keep driving in this rain any longer.
I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel, it had about 20 or 25 cars meaning that a it's not very popular. I turned off my car and began to rummage through my bag to find my charger. "Please don't tell me I left it at home, I didn't leave it at home." I thought to myself. I gave up on looking for it. I left it at home.
I leaned back and my chair and let the sound of rain fill my head, it was quiet and relaxing. I could feel myself slowly drifting myself to sleep, I guess all those hours of driving must have been catching up with me. I was about to fall asleep when a loud, irritating knocking on my window jolted me awake.
It was a blonde boy with a transparent rain coat on. His mouth was scrunched up due to the rain falling harshly on his face. He pointed a finger in a downward motion meaning that he wanted me to roll my windows down. I held up one finger telling him to wait.
I finally rolled down window, letting the rain slightly moisten my face.
"You can't park here ma'am." He yelled over the loud rain pouring down on him. He had a very noticeable Irish accent. "It's a 'employees only' zone." He said pointing at the sign in front of me.
I looked out the window and saw a big blue sign that said 'EMPLOYEE ZONE'. "Oh I- I really didn't know, I'm sorry." I stammered out nervously.
"Don't worry about it, sunshine." He beamed showing off his beautiful, white, teeth. I felt myself blushing hard. "I'll show you where to park...uh what's your name?" He said tilting his head slightly.
"Emily. Nice to meet you." I put one hand out for him to shake it, he looked down at my hand as if I only had three fingers but he shook it back.
"Niall." He smiled at me. "Your name's Emily? You know? The name Emily reminds of a story-"
He began but was cut off by the sound of a man yelling.
"Niall! Come on, you have work to do!" A short, fat man yelled from the doorway.
Niall rolled his eyes and hung his head in annoyance. "That's my boss. You better get inside, it's starting to come down hard. You staying the night, ma'am?" He asked me. I thought about it for a second. I guess I should find somewhere to rest for the night. "Yeah, why not?" I smiled. He told me where to park and told me where to check in, I thanked him and went to park my car.
