Ch 6

The atmosphere in the SUV had changed, the air seemed to grow more tense with each passing moment. Jas had no clue Reid or Skye suspected something of him. The others seemed completely oblivious to what had transpired between the three, minus the small squabble they had. Stormy now watched from her seat in the back, unable to sleep, sleep seemed like an unwelcome friend to her in the moment as she tried to make out the scenery that passed by her wished for that sleepless slumber she had stumbled upon long ago. The dream state that led her to Phoenix and Onyx. Stormy knew it wasn't safe to think or even dream of them around Adarius. So, when he had discovered what she had done, it was deemed a lingering dream of two human boys. A residual effect from when she was still human. After all she had nightmares of the night her parents were murdered.

"Storm?" A male voice called out to her "Stormy you okay?" the voice called out again.

"Hmm?" She answered the second time she heard her name. Only to look up to see everyone staring at her. "What?" Stormy mumbled quietly

"Are you okay?" Reid questioned with worry etched into his brow.

"I'm fine. Why do you want to know?" Stormy quipped a little icier than normal.

"Hey, why don't we stop and stretch our legs? Yeah?" Sage retorted realizing something was off with her best friend.

As the young woman spoke she gave Reid a hard look that told him it wasn't a request. Against his better judgment the eldest Shadow sibling agreed to stop. The small caravan was a few hours from the city at most. His gut told him this was wrong, once the vehicle was parked a heavy sigh left his lips.

"Keep an eye on each other and my sisters." he commanded "please, something just..." Reid paused for a moment as he shook his head "just be careful everyone." he replied as he stepped from the SUV.

Once everyone had stepped from the SUV Sage closed Stormy and herself inside. She held up a hand stopping Reid, Alria and Myla in their tracks.

"Stormy, what's really going on?" Sage questioned as she watched her friend's eyes shift back and forth as if she was watching for danger.

Stormy groaned as she settled back down in her seat, her eyes finally locked with Sage's.

"We're being followed. I miss them. My older brother returns now of all times." Stormy rambled on as she tried to hide the pain she felt. The sadness she was feeling from being separated from Phoenix and Onyx, from her siblings, was starting to overwhelm her. After all, she had kept it hidden for four years so that Adarius couldn't use it against her. Sage sat next to her wishing she could take some of the burden off of her friend though she understood the pain and sadness she was feeling.

"How do you know someone is following us?" Sage rushed as the rest of Stormy's words sank in, she wished she could change places with her best friend. Sage knew just how the young woman was feeling. Separated from her siblings and mate however Sage had not been forced to marry a murder.

"Watch." Stormy whispered as she pulled Sage from the Vehicle, the redhead ignored the look she got from her older brother.

"Sage? Stormy?" Reid asked as he started towards them but was stopped but Alria and Myla.

The pair nodded to their guards as they walked off behind the row of trees. Alria and Myla knew that they wanted to be alone, something was clearly off but they couldn't leave the pair unprotected either.

"There" She whispered when the two female guards appeared next to them.

"When... What the actual fu.." Sage nearly screamed as she jumped out of her skin. The scream was silenced when Stormy clamped her hand over her mouth
