After about an hour debating if he wanted to get down from the tree or not, Lytton decided it was best to try and find either the exit or some of his classmates. It's not like he was friends with any of them, but human familiarity was better than being alone. He shimmied down the tree and looked around, then down at his pants. He tsked, unhappy about peeing his pants like a little child, but that was the most terrifying thing he'd ever experienced! That Venus fly trap was so huge and menacing and stunk! Oh god, did it smell. Even thinking about it, Lytton gagged. He kept it together though, afraid vomiting might attract the zombies and the zombanimals back to him.
Speaking of which, why were there zombies and zombanimals?
What exactly kind of forest had they gotten themselves into?
Did it even matter?

As he walked along the path, his stomach started growling and he wished he could have found something to eat. Just as he was thinking about it, he came upon an open area that was full of deer. He stopped abruptly as one deer scanned the tree line, almost like a lookout. Lytton was sure the deer could smell him, but he stayed put anyway, not moving a muscle. After a few moments, the deer started walking some more, walking the perimeter of the herd away from Lytton. He breathed, not realizing he had been holding his breath the whole time. He looked around the huge open area and all the deer that were in the way and wondered how in the world he was going to get through them. As he contemplated this, he heard what sounded like a moan and the sound of something heavy being dragged through the underbrush. He went still again, hearing the sound pretty close by, but after a bit, nothing really happened.
He sighed, about to move when he heard the moan again and the deer grazing in front of him picked up their heads at the sound. They moved in unison to look at the sound and Lytton did as well, finally seeing a deer walking backwards out of the woods about four yards from him, pulling something with its teeth. Lytton slowly pushed up his glasses and squinted, realizing what it was.
"Mrs. Blount?" he whispered, thoroughly shocked.
She looked mostly dead if all the blood had any say on her condition, but by the moans she was echoing, it was clear she was somewhat alive. The deer that was dragging her in finally stopped and let her leg flop down to the ground. It turned to its brethren and made a noise in their direction. The deer in front of it didn't really respond, just chewing in disinterest. Suddenly, Lytton saw some antlers come into view and then the largest buck he had ever seen came over from the middle of the herd. The thing looked like it was a twenty-point or more. It was practically a moose! The normal-sized deer motioned to Mrs. Blount and the Grand Deer Wizard (as Lytton was calling it) bent down and sniffed her. It moved her head with its muzzle and then turned her over onto her back. Lytton made a face as he witnessed the huge gaping hole in Mrs. Blount's abdomen, her entrails slightly hanging out.
The Grand Deer Wizard sniffed what Lytton could barely make out was most likely intestine and then opened its mouth, grabbing it. The squishing noises of its sharp teeth tearing into the tender, slimy organ made Lytton's stomach drop when it pulled on the intestine and the rest of it came out of the hole, unfurling like sausage links, and Mrs. Blount yelled out in pain. The noise seemed to attract other deer and they came running over to check it out but the Grand Deer Wizard snarled at them, blood slinging everywhere. Lytton immediately lost his appetite and used this opportunity to get away from this monstrosity.

After running a good ways, Lytton realized he had gone deeper into the forest instead of hopefully out of the forest. He walked along the path, catching his breath as well as trying to figure out exactly what he wanted to do. As he cantered along, he thought he saw a sign up ahead.
