The clock read 10:37, on a Sunday morning.I rolled on my queen sized bed, til' I fell off and banged my toe on my counter.
That wasn't a good idea....
"Owwww", I groaned. I probably was the clumsiest person ever, but I would never admit that. Even though many people probably already know that. I had a slight headache, but just because it was Sunday morning. Tomorrow was the first day of school. And like always I would make sure I had everything for the day. I hated being unprepared, but that all changes in the middle of the school year when I end up not having even one pencil.
I got dressed for the day, and trotted to the dining room. My mom would always wake up early in the morning to make breakfast. Which I didn't understand how she could do that every single morning.
"Mornin' mom," I yelled as I was a few feet away from the door.
"Good morning, sweetie!" My mom exclaimed as she turned around from setting the table and giving me a slight hug.
"Where's dad?"
"He left early to go to his baseball game and from there he's going to work."
"Oh" I sighed.
I didn't want to bother my mom about where I'm staying after school, but I managed to let it out. "And where am I going to stay after school," I started, " and who is taking me, picking me up?", I questioned.
"Well," she started, " your dad has a really good friend that lives near your school." I already knew where this was going and wished I didn't ask. "He has a son that's in the same grade as you are and we decided that they will pick you up, and you can stay there while we pick you up."
I didn't know what to say or think. So I just sat there on a chair staring off into space.
"That sound good?" She asked staring at me worryingly.
"Yeah that's fine, I guess"I responded trying to sound satisfied.
I started eating the pancakes my mom made me and my brother, which was still in bed. After I finished I placed my dish in the sink and went straight to my room. I really wish the people at the "stranger's" house are nice, most importantly that the boy is likable. These thoughts kept going through my mind. The rest of the day passed by in a flash.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sound of knocks at my door early in the morning startled me awake. And that's when I remembered that it was the first day of school. I was running a few minutes behind from what I was planning. But I was sure I wouldn't be late. Hopefully, anyway.
"I'm awake", I groaned.
"Okay, now hurry up!"my mom yelled from the other side of my bedroom door.
"I'm going, I'm going!" I yelled back.
The first thing I did when I sat up on my bed was reach over to my nightstand and take a peek at my phone.
I rapidly got dressed with the best outfit I could put together, using uniform. I wouldn't want to get in trouble on my first day or any other day. I grabbed my journal, a pencil, and a pen and stuffed it in my backpack. Honestly the only things you need on the first day.
And with that I walked out and shut the door behind me. I turned around as I heard a door close.
"Oh hey, dad!" I greeted.
"Hi, Sweetie," he replied,"I meant to tell you before, but I forgot......"
"Yeah" I signaled him to go on.
"Well," he started, "You kinda have to stay there til' tomorrow because your mom and I are not gonna be home and we don't want you alone at the house."
And the bomb was dropped.
I had plans... To come home and watch back-to-back episodes of Orange is the New Black. All afternoon I was gonna be in bed eating....but now my plans are ruined.
