Emerson Kincaid or as her friends and family called her "Emma" or "Emmy" was living a rather complicated life but she had learned to deal with it. She was living with her mother and her stepfather. Lucky for her, her stepfather, Atlas Corrigan was a wonderful person. She even called him "dad" just like she called her actual father who she spent the weekends.

Her parents mysteriously got a divorce when she was born. She never got to know the reason. It wasn't that she was lacking curiosity, on the contrary, she was asked multiple times but the only response she ever got was that they simply grew apart. But Emma was way too smart to just accept that this was the case. She was well aware that there was something deeper, something they were hiding from her. She has noticed the way Lilly and Ryle looked at each other.

Once she and her father were going over an old photo album, his eyes almost teared up at the sight of his old photographs with his ex-wife. Not to mention that he was obsessed with "photograph" by Ed Sheeran.

Ryle was living alone. It was impossible to move on after Lilly. Now his pride and joy was his daughter who he loved more than anyone. She loved him equally, Emmy's favorite person had always been her dad. Her hero, the one who she always looked up to. Her favorite day had always been Friday because she knew that he would be the one to pick her up from school. That, of course, doesn't mean that she loved her mother or stepfather less, she, of course, did love them but her dad was, funnier, sweeter, told the best stories, and always bought her the best gifts. She had a soft spot for her father's spontaneous gifts.

She knew that her mother was happy but she always wondered what would have happened if she has a normal family, her and her parents living under the same roof, spending time with her mum without missing her dad, and vice versa. She felt really sorry for him, he was living alone and he was depressed. He had seen a therapist and from the little info that she has managed to learn, his mental health wasn't good anyway. She always tried to cheer him up, she always did that by making popcorn and watching his favorite movie with him that has always been "La la land"
It's rather sad, but it always made him feel better.

Her father was her hero. She was always bragging about him being a neurosurgeon, as he was saving lives. Because of that, she wanted to be a doctor, a cardiologist to be exact.

The biggest mystery in her life will always be the reason if her parent's sudden breakup. But she is soon going to find out all about it. It will be a discovery that will change her life forever.
