George POV.

I woke up very early in the morning to a knock on my room door and was ripped out of a nightmare that had been terrorizing me only seconds before.
Breathing heavily and still shaking a little, I sat up on the mattress and turned on the small lamp next to my bed.
A quick glance at the alarm clock on my bedside table revealed that it was only 2:57 am in the morning.

My voice was a bit low and, having woken up only a few moments earlier, was a little deeper than usual from sleep when I called out to the person to come in.
It was only then that I realized that I didn't even remember going to my room.
I actually fell asleep on Puffy's sofa, which made me wonder who had taken me to my room.
The door opened quietly and Dream stepped into the room before carefully closing it behind him.
I greeted him briefly and he then did the same.

Dream's blond curls were a bit disheveled and he didn't seem very awake yet, as if he had only recently woken up.
I had to admit that the sleepy expression and messy hair made him look quite... cute, but I resisted any desire to comment anything.
I was aware that he shared a house of his own with his girlfriend, so I was a little confused as to why he was there at all.
He didn't usually sleep with the others in the headquarters, so why did he look like he'd only woken up a few minutes earlier?
Rather than voice my question out loud, I decided to ask him something else and cocked my head to the side slightly.

"What's going on? I mean, why are you awake this early?"

His slight smile from earlier almost instantly fell straight off his face and he seemed reluctant to answer it, but he narrowed his eyes briefly in thought and collected himself before speaking up.

"I couldn't sleep and... don't want to be alone right now... can I maybe stay here with you?"

I hesitated for a moment before I smiled and nodded slightly.
Many questions swam around in my head, but I couldn't quite bring myself to ask them.
Dream carefully approached the bed and sat down on the mattress next to me.
Fortunately, since the room had a king-sized bed, there were no space problems and I watched a little skeptically as Dream ran his right hand over his face and sighed in thought.
I let out a slight sigh myself, drawing Dream's attention to me, which gave me the opportunity to ask him one of the questions that just seemed too important to me.
I couldn't ignore it.

"Is everything okay?"

He bit his lower lip lightly and it seemed to me that he had to fight back tears before he shook his head a little.
I looked at him with concern and mild confusion, but I had to wait a few more seconds to get an accurate response from him.

"M- my girlfriend cheated on me... She- she was faking our relationship and just took advantage of me and my money even though she... even though she never really loved me..."

A tear found its way down his face, but he wiped it away immediately, which made me doubt that I even saw it in the first place.

"Nick told me yesterday and then I fell asleep on one of the couches in the foyer, but it's not easy to sleep well alone when you're so used to having someone lying next to you..."

He seemed to consider his next words for a moment before very hesitantly making another statement, which surprised me a bit.

"C- can I stay with you for tonight? Of course only if it's ok with you, don't feel pressured..."

His request seemed desperate and very sad, but I wasn't too sure if I should say yes.
Apparently he didn't want to be alone, which I probably wouldn't want to be in his situation either.
It was already clear to me why he hadn't asked Nick to stay with him for the night, after all he had his boyfriend Karl and they were already sleeping together so Nick wouldn't have the time or inclination to leave his partner alone or throw him out of bed just to help Dream.
However... I was still unsure.

I had been plagued by horrific nightmares and memories of what had been done to me for several nights, and I didn't want to risk waking up screaming and thereby stealing Dream's sleep...
After a few seconds of silence, despite my worries, I decided to say yes and nodded cautiously, since I wanted to help the mafia leader, and his well-being was more important to me than my concerns, whereupon Dream smiled and thanked me in a low voice.

He started to lie down under the covers next to me and I did the same, after a few seconds I noticed Dream turning off the light and closed my eyes.

"Good night, George..."

It wasn't easy for me to fall asleep, so I lay awake for a long time, listening to the steady breathing of the blond man next to me.
Just before I was actually tired enough to drift off to dreamland, however, I heard Dream roll over in his sleep and seconds later felt his right arm wrap around my waist from behind.
I felt my breath hitch and my heart start beating faster, before he pulled me closer and pressed my back against his chest.
His head buried itself in my neck and I could feel his calm breath on my skin, which relaxed me a bit.

His body was very close to mine and gave me a little more warmth than the already warm, fluffy blanket did.
I closed my tired eyes again and snuggled a little further into his chest behind me, whereupon his arm hugged my waist a bit tighter, pulling me closer than before and his hand slipped under my shirt to draw small circles on my skin with his thumb.
It calmed me down in a way and I allowed myself to relax completely in his arms and sighed softly in contentment.

I was pretty sure that Dream had already fallen asleep and it was just a reflex of his body to snuggle up to the person next to him in his sleep, since he used to sleep next to his now ex-girlfriend, but apparently I was wrong.
The last thing I heard before falling asleep was the low and still very awake sounding voice of the blond mafia leader, whispering softly into my ear;

"Sleep well Georgie..."
