Chapter 2: Looks Can be Deceiving

ICEBURG'S POV

The waves gently lap at the shore as the sun rises. I love my daily morning walks by the shore. Nobody is up down here except for Kalifa and I. She always a few steps behind me. It has only be a week and I think I made the best choice for a secretary. As I am walking, all of a sudden, I hear a crash of a wave and a small moan. At first I didn't think anything of it, but then Kalifa said "Sir! It's a child!" I turned around and lo and behold there was a small child, a girl I think lying on her side dressed in nothing but rags and breathing heavily. "Kalifa! Is she alright?" I said running towards my secretary and the child. Kalifa is kneeling in the sand the child's head in her lap. "Sir, she has a high fever I think and she is unconscious, should we take her back to Galley- La?" she asked. "Yes, " I say picking the small girl up, she has white hair, strange. I thought. "Also call a doctor to meet us there." I continue. Then, the girl all of the sudden tenses up,  opens her eyes and says: "Kaku?" then collapses again in my arms limp, who is Kaku? I wonder. "Come on Kalifa! We are gonna lose her!" I say running towards my Galley-La. The girl is breathing heavily. Is she gonna make it through today? I thought to myself. With me distracted, I ran into Paulie, my Dock 1 foreman. "What you have there boss?" He says. " Can't talk now Paulie," I said gruffly and continue running. Finally I make it back to Galley- La. "The guest room closest to your bedroom is ready for her sir." Kalifa says walking out of the front entrance,  "Also, there is a physician on their way now." She says as I run into the building towards the stairs.  "Thank you Kalifa, direct them to the room when they arrive." I say. 

Back to Emma's POV

"K-k-kaku?" I say opening my eyes slowly. My body weak from my "fever". There is a man with purple hair looking down on me, he looks worried. "Oh!" He says standing up. "You're awake." "W-who are you? Where am I? Where is Kaku?" I said trying to sit up in the soft bed I was in. The man holds my back and helps me up slowly. "So many questions for someone who almost died." The man says with a chuckle, " But kids are kids I guess," He continues looking at me. " My name is Iceburg, you are at the HQ of Galley-La ship building at Water 7, and I don't know who or where Kaku is." Iceberg answers. I look up with puppy eyes and say "K-kaku is my big bro, he left me at an orphanage and said he was coming to Water 7 for a job. After he-" I stopped, and started sobbing. Iceberg looks uncomfortable and hands me a handkerchief as Kalifa walks in. "This is my secretary, Kalifa um..." He trails off. "I just realized I never got your name kid, do you think you can tell me through those tears?." He says with a small smile. "E-E-Emma." I blubbered then wiped my tears on the piece of cloth I was given. "Would you mind finishing your story Emma?" Iceberg says looking at me with concerned eyes. I nod my head and take a deep breath. "After Kaku left me I ran away from the orphanage and snuck onto a ship that was heading here but there was a storm and I fell off the ship and took part of the railing with me. I had been swimming for quite some time when then storm finished, then, I saw shore. I passed out when my feet could touch the bottom. That is when you saved me Mr. Iceberg." I finished batting my eyelashes, making it look like I was blinking away tears. "Well, I have to get going Emma." Iceberg said turning away from me. "Kalifa, make sure she gets fed and some new clothes would also be nice." He says walking out of the room. 

Once out of ear shot, Kalifa comes up to me. " If I didn't know you, I would think you were telling the truth." she says smiling at me, "You did quite well laying out the story and making it seem legit. You will be a great agent yet Emma." Kalifa states. Then she turns away walking towards the door. "Now, what do you want to eat?"
