Chapter 6: Just the Beginning

He flew to the spikes in the ceiling of the cavern and fires his thunder flames at them, they dodged, but the lighting crackles as it travels along the metal. Grog slides back, glaring at the dragon, but the lighting catches up and shocks him.

He screams out in pain, "Grog!" Pike calls out as he collapses on the ground. "Are you all right?" Percy asks him. Grog just looks up at him. "Um, no," he answers. Keyleth was frightened, but soon saw the flash of light, looking back as Krieg or Brimscythe fired at them again.

They scatter once more, dodging the thunder. Vex and Vax stop short, dodging the lighting as it slithers on the ground, just in front of them, but it crawls up once of the spike that stood out in the ground.

Vax just looks up at it as a chuck broke off, he braces himself, but thick vines gathered up, shielding him as the chuck breaks off on top of the vines, then was flung away.

Vax blinks his eyes and looks behind him, seeing Kyria holding out her hand, "Thanks, Kyria!" he calls out to her. She nods, but then Jason ran up to her, takes her by the waist, and pulls her out of sight as Brimscythe fires again, missing her.

Vex slides on her knees, passes her brother, and fired a flame arrow at Brimscythe, "A tickle. Let me return the favor." he calls out. Vex just frown as he was looking right at her. "Shit," she mutters.

But Vax takes her by the hand and took off running. Brimscythe took to the ground, Scanlan and Pike dodge the claw as he ran through the cavern, but his tail hits Pike sending her flying into a spike. "Pike!" Jason calls out.

The Twins kept running, trying to stay out of Brimscythe's range. "Fools. I'll devour you all," he calls out to them. Scanlan slides into a pile of gold, his scent catches Brimscythe's attention as he lurks just over the gnome.

Scanlan looks up and sees the dragon open his mouth and charges his attack, "Pike? Pike?" Scanlan calls out as he took off running and Brimscythe fires at him, the concentrated beam trailing after him, "Pike? Pike?! Pike!?" Scanlan kept calling out.

But he calls to his knees as Brimscythe fires again, but Pike jumps in front of him, gripping her necklace and holding up a shield.

Then a vine wraps around Brimscythe's jaw, locking in, shutting his mouth, cutting off the fire, and veering him away from the gnomes. The dragon just snarls and looks at where the vine came from.

He snarls, glaring down at Kyria as she held her hand out, crystal glowing, but she strains under the hold. Jason ran up to the two gnomes, picked them up and under his arms, and took off running. "Thanks, Jason!" Pike said. "Oh, do not thank me yet. We haven't killed the thing yet!" he shouts at her, sliding behind an outstretched spike.

The metal around them began to melt from the heat and the three peered back out, Brimscythe rips his jaw free and glares down at Kyria, who takes off running. "You are a throne at my side, little one. For you were the only one that hurt me," he calls out.

Kyria hid behind a spike, feeling her heart beating like crazy as her fear was starting to overwhelm her. "But I will not be making the same mistake twice in underestimating you as he did!" he calls out, taking to the air once again. But the words caught her attention. "He...?" she mutters.

But a hand immediately grabs her, she looks back, it was Vax once again. "Don't just stand there. Move!" he tells her and ran, pulling her with him. Vines that have gathered in one small place uncoil, revealing Keyleth and Percy as they emerge from it. "Look out!" Keyleth calls out, taking Percy by his arm and pulling him out of the way as Brimscythe fires at them.
