***************
Niki Nihachu was a simple young woman. She was a kind-hearted soul, and everyone that met her called her an angel from god. She owned a popular bakery, and if you had the chance to walk by, the smell of freshly baked bread would immediately draw you in. Upon entering the bakery, you would be greeted with an assortment of bread, cookies, and pies. You wouldn't be able to resist buying at least one of them! A humble lady, she never had the heart to brag and got all her materials from caving by herself.
Now one day, when she was doing her daily mining for coal, she heard a wail.
The sound of crying bounced off the bare stone walls of the cave, intruding on Niki's ears. Curious, she headed in the sound's direction. After walking for a while, her foot hit something hard and the flame of her torch illuminated a small cardboard box. The wailing stopped and Niki found a small child that looked around 4, in a cardboard box, staring up at her with violet eyes. She had long brown hair and was clutching a small raccoon soft toy. Immediately, Niki's "motherly" sense hopped out, and she picked the child up gingerly. The small child giggled and buried her head in Niki's chest. "Aw, aren't you a sweet one," Niki cooed, patting the child's soft hair, "I'll name you... Anika because it means sweetness of face, and boy, you're adorable!"
(3 years later)
"Anika! Don't go too far, sweetheart!" Niki yelled from the entrance of her bakery as Anika frolicked around, chasing a butterfly.
"Okay, Mummy!" She shouted back, watching as the butterfly landed on a flower. Its wings seemed to glow in the bright sunlight, and the patterns on them were beautiful. It fluttered its wings before flying away in the light of the setting sun, away, away, and away. Anika waved. "Goodbye, Mrs butterfly!" She yelled after it, before turning back and entering the bakery again. Anika was an obedient girl who followed the rules and was curious about everything. Whenever the sun goes down, she would stop whatever she was doing and head back home, because Mum said so. Everything that mum said was correct to her, and when the sun sets, Mum said that that was when the bad guys and bad creatures come out. Niki had told her that her violet eyes made her very rare, possibly increasing the chances of kidnapping for sale. Niki was in the middle of shutting down the shop, gathering the leftover pieces of bread and putting them in plastic bags. As Niki couldn't bear seeing the homeless children that pass by every day go hungry and starve, she gives them the leftover bread. She walked by Anika, leaning down to pat her head before heading outside. After a while, she came back, grinning happily at herself. "Is Wilbur coming over for dinner?" Anika asked as she wrote some things down in her diary. Since she started learning how to write, she had picked up the habit of writing in her diary, which she named Ata, because it meant a gift. Her mother's girlfriend, Puffy, had given her the diary when she was 5. Anika wrote everything that she was too scared to talk about inside Ata. "Wilbur and Phil are both coming for dinner, sweetheart," Niki replied, just as a knock rang out in the empty bakery.
"Coming!" Niki called out as she ran towards the glass door, opening it to reveal a brown-haired man with brown eyes accompanied by a blonde man with blue eyes. Wilbur engulfed Niki with a bear hug while Phil smiled and adjusted the green and white striped bucket hat that was balanced on his blonde hair. "Wilburrrrr," Anika squealed the moment the two parted from each other's arms. Wilbur grinned and scooped Anika into his long, lanky arms. Ever since she met him, she treated him like the father she never had. With his brown hair, small wrinkles under his eyes when he smiled or laughed, and his chocolate brown eyes that were full of an unsaid emotion, Anika had fallen in love with him. It was the same story for Wilbur, too. Anika's long brown hair, rare violet eyes that were always shining with joy, and her melodious laughter that rang through the halls, Wilbur treated her like the daughter he never had. "Hello, kiddo," Wilbur chirped and ruffled up her hair, while Phil straightened out the creases in her white blouse. Phil was like the grandfather she had never had. He was the father of Will, and even though he wasn't that old, they liked to call him "old man". Sure, it may seem disrespectful to elders, but Philza was fine with it. "You've gotten even more adorable since the last time I met you," Wilbur remarked, making Anika squeal in excitement.
"Aw, let's not stand at the door! Come in and make yourselves home! The mobs will be here faster than you can say L'Manberg!" Niki interjected, leading themselves.
"Speaking of L'Manberg, I have something I need to tell you about Niki," Wilbur suddenly said, looking more serious and solemn. Niki raised an eyebrow, and her eyes narrowed. "Alright," she agreed in a stiff voice, "but first, we eat!"
Dinner was splendid. Niki was an excellent cook, and she could put together a buffet with ease if she had the time. Fried rice was served today, which she made herself. She had made it the best thing Anika had ever tasted, despite it being a simple dish. Niki chuckled at their eagerness as they wolfed down the tasty dish. With a side of chicken, broccoli, and mushroom soup, it was a mouthwatering meal. After dinner, Wilbur had pulled out his guitar and started playing one of his many songs, Soft boy. His melodious voice echoed through the halls, and eventually, Anika fell asleep on his shoulder, snoring softly. Wilbur smiled and changed the song to a soft lullaby. When the song was finished, Niki carried Anika up to her room, bundling her up in her blankets before leaving.
