Chapter 13: Back Home
Bopping her head to the upbeat tune of 'On My Way' by Alan Walker, Sabrina Carpenter and Farruko, L/n Y/n tried to surpress her bubbling excitement from bursting out. Yes, that same energy-replenishing, electrifying excitement that was challenging her to throw herself out of the train window. She held back an ecstatic scream as she bounced her knees up and down, earning exasperated stares from the other half-asleep passengers.
Saturday. It was the Saturday 3 days after L/n found out she was moving back to Musutafu. She was on a train, already on the way back home. Home. She smiled, she was going back home.
Impatience. He hadn't felt such impatience in years. Or was it excitement? He could never really distunguish between the two. 18-years-old Bakugou Katsuki, still dressed in his hero costume with a white-buttoned up shirt carelessly draped over it, paced up and down impatiently at the train station as he awaited his best friend's arrival.
He laced his sweaty fingers together, ignoring the lovesick gaze of many girls around him, especially the three behind him - he really couldn't care less about them. To him, they were pathetic people who couldn't fucking take care of their own safety that there had to be heroes to save their ass. Or was this his anger talking?
Bakugou waved away the thought. Whatever. He really couldn't be bothered to waste his energy on these lowlifes.
He checked his watch.
When's Y/n arriving again?
He was almost scared. It'd been a few years, a few years since he saw her, and that was way too long. What if he started acting awkward around her? Would she be more attached to her friends back in Kagoshima? Or worse, does she have a secret partner there already?
Small explosions began bursting from his palms at just the thought; he instantly felt his head going light. He heaved out a tired sigh, shaking his head aggressively to clear his mind.
Then, making sure no one saw him, he slowly and reluctantly pulled his phone out from his pocket, deciding to request aid regarding the matter from his dear old friend WikiHow.
He soon found himself tuning out the chattering and bustling noises of the train station, all becoming a soft buzz in the background, as people trudged by him, some gawking, some not even looking at his direction. Train after train came and left, and he made sure to look up each time one stops, to check if it was her ride, only to be met with disappointment. 7 hours, he knew, she'd been on the train for 7 hours, since 11 pm yesterday.
Bakugou checked his phone again, his heart pounding heavily against his chest. 5: 57 am. Just a few more minutes, he told himself hastily, desperately trying to push down his impatience.
On cue, a train with the number plate '神户 世 21-58' skidded to a stop in front of him. He looked up, checked the number plate, and stood up so abruptly he nearly faceplanted on the ground.
The train doors opened with a squeaky 'cher-klunk' and people quickly began pouring out, one after another.
He scanned the busy crowd for her bright h/c hair, only to no avail. The colored hair colors of the sea of people who filled the train station are quite boring, he noticed subconsciously.
L/n's hair color is a beautiful h/c hue, suiting her soft, fluffy locks. He always found himself staring whenever it glistened in the sunlight, giving her a sunkissed look; whenever it shone under the moonlight, oh so mesmerizing and dreamy. He would then stop to think, was this normal? He supposed it was, he never did it to anyone else after all. She was his only best friend.
Bakugou snapped out of his little daze, panicking. Shit, he got distracted, the train is almost empty and yet he didn't manage to catch sight of her. Dammit, he fretted, balling up his fists.
The last few passengers who'd fallen asleep on the ride were dashing out of the public transport, hurriedly gathering their belongings double the size of themselves. He checked the number plate again - no, it was correct. This was L/n's train. Even if he lost sight of her, there was no way she could've missed his 6'3 ass.
He felt his head go light again, sinking into his seat dejectedly. The three girls behind him swooned dramatically. Bakugou took a second to think, then, reaching into his pocket, he stood up, phone in hand.
He hesitated for a second, but deciding he was firm on his decision, he punched in her number, and held it up to his ear. It began dialing; he heard his heart pounding heavily against his chest.
Before anyone picked up, however, someone - or something - hurled themselves right at him, resulting in them both tumbling down onto the ground, like a burrito rolling about aimlessly.
Bakugou - already really irritated - opened his mouth, ready to blow whoever it was to hell, before he took in the person in front of him.
Fluffy h/c bob with bangs covering her forehead, tears nearly pouring from those wide e/c eyes, and - although she'd grown rather subtly - her short figure wrapped in a Ground Zero hoodie - was more than familiar, and enough to send Bakugou's heart into an absolute frenzy (and forget about the phone that quite literally flew out of his grip, never to be seen again).
"Katsuki ── !" she wailed, hammering her fists on his chest lightly, tears streaming down her face. He found himself gasping. Her voice in real life after so long... it's almost unbelievable.
L/n missed him. No, that was an understatement. He'd grown. He was so tall, so good looking. She wanted to tell him that his new undercut suited him perfectly, that those scars he'd gotten from hero work were beautiful, that she missed staring into those piercing vermillion eyes... but she was so overwhelmed by her emotions that all she could do was cry.
Running footsteps hurried towards them, accompanied by luggage wheels rolling over the pavement.
"Y/n! There you are!"
A stern mellow voice called out, but L/n buried her face further into his chest, missing his warmth as she casually ignored her mother as well as the swooning girls' bewildered gasps.
Her father left the luggage and practically sprinted forward, terrified of a nuclear explosion happening in the middle of a train station - but to his utmost surprise, this explosive, loud boy he often heard his daughter talking to wrapped his arms around her, nuzzling his face into her messy bedhead, hiding his glossy eyes from everyone else.
Her dad's face went blank; her mom held up her phone and snapped a picture, expression just a blank, as the three girls at the back collasped onto the ground, overwhelmed with despair.
L/n couldn't care less what it was that was going on behind her, she smiled into his embrace, as he whispered into her ear softly -
"Welcome home, Y/n."
